looking to get some bigger intercoolers for the Zed for summer

really like the look of the Front mounted ones in a 99 spec bumper

question is:

which would be better? uprated sides or much bigger front

not too fussed at doing minor mods to make the front one fit

seen decent kits in the states for about 1000 dollas

thanks

Mark

No but it gets to serious, there is no better option, unless you stand next to a dyno and swap from SM to FM and do 2runs,even then it will be inconclusive,as every dyno run will be differant, charge temps etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc

FM are for show :smash:

SM for a pro  so there you go

love you eggy :xxx:

Well I'm gonna buy 2 FMIC and fookin squeeze 'em in left and right.....then I'm gonna shove a 3rd one down my trousers.

LOL!

Surely a FMIC is basically two intercoolers as they have there own "compartments" (if you can call them that) with a more direct inflow compared to the side mount which is slighty more restricted??

I have no experience with any of them but as it is 1 FMIC which is basically 2, doesnt it just do the exact same job as a SM but with size and location being different??

I have always wanted an FMIC but I think I will stick to the SM and save money when upgrading to a SM for the Z.

I can tell you a bit about SMIC vs FMIC

FIRST: I have the 3-row Greddy FMIC installed on my car. I remember when i first put it on my car and i took it for a spin i was like what the hell.... Turbo spool up was bad. I was feeling turbo lag more than ever before. However i eliminate this problem and now my turbo spool up is nearly back to stock by adjusting the Gain settings on my Blitz Boost Controller

SECOND: I have an Electronic Water Temp Gauge and there is a raise in temp after the installation. Especially when i am driving at a hot day in the city.

But the car never overheats. The solution to this problem is to have a Vented hood and a Vented Center Panel then you will have a drop in temp.

This is not an issue for me because there must be a really serious reason to drive the car in the summer middle day.

THIRD: Installation of the FMIC it wasnt that hard to do. Just need some fabrication and it fits right. At least with the Greddy one.

FOURTH: I can definetely say that my car makes more power. At least it feels more powerfull. Always spins tyres when hit the gas, 2nd gear no matter if the car is hot or not no matter what RPM. Before it didnt.

I can say that i really love it. It looks cool and some cons i mentioned above are not that serious to make me regret it. I am upgrading my Turbos soon and turbos spool up is something i will have to experience with or without the FMIC. Also cooling issues is something i will take care with larger radiator and oil cooler.

Just opened them and paint them with chrome paint.

I said facts not stuff read off other forums and shite spouted on here, tell me why Texan Z's running in 110 degree heat run FMIC's no problem.

That's the problem on here people read and listen to BS too often

Nothing to do with you selling them then?

I sell both

How is it a lot of work to install ? the Greddy kit can be installed with the bumper off in an hour.

Yeah right LOL

So it's not easier to replace stock with thicker ones?

And a front mount does need the oil cooler moving and reduces airflow to the rad a huge amount.

PLUS you are very limited with what induction kit you can use.

I'd rather chop up an old Z radiator and glue it in there for free to get the same look

Hey you!!

Get off the forum and get that "shit tip" of a car cleaned up.

SMIC, FMIC who gives a ****

LOL, I have had Stock and aftermarket SMIC's on my Z and i'm now going for a GReddy FMIC with my other ongoing ;) mods, so, i'll let you know whats best! :)

How about fitting 2 side mounts on the passenger side to balance the car? :x:

changed into a slag chunk thread :mac1:  :nana2:

god, this threads enough to make u want to get an NA!!

 thats why i bought an N/A .. but when i done my TT many moons ago .. mainly built by TDI i had a HKS FMIC put on and was advised due to it slighly restricting the flow that it would be a a good idea as id spent 16k+ to upgrade a rad that was 6 years old and get a brand new water pump due to the fact a 6 year old impeller wouldnt be as efficient as a new one .. kinda makes sense.. plus the fact .. when you mod an engine you burn more fuel and induct more air .. more HEAT.. nothing to do with the FMIC .. more to do with the rest of the setup .. i had Zero problems with it and this was a car that was estimated at 540/560 RWHP ..(was featured on here many moons ago b4 this was a forum .. nice that Luke from Zcentre remembered it).. unconfired as the car was stolen prior to finishing off all the minor things.. done by a Pro whos been in the game for years and had plenty of feature cars in mags

im no engineer/mechanic .. but he done me proud till some (hundreds of bleeps) nicked it
