looking to get some bigger intercoolers for the Zed for summer

really like the look of the Front mounted ones in a 99 spec bumper

question is:

which would be better? uprated sides or much bigger front

not too fussed at doing minor mods to make the front one fit

seen decent kits in the states for about 1000 dollas

thanks

Mark

State some facts then come on lol this should be interesting.........

Are you blind or just plain THICK? Legrath posted the facts I agreed 100% with him and stated IMHO nobster :xxx:

I must admit I love the look of the FMI but for perfomance it has to be the SMI ...

Just can't get that light blue strosek photoshop out of my mind .. if anyone remembers that one ... it looked fantastic ... not to dandy on performance though ...

getting into a world of hurt here I am sure ..

I said facts not stuff read off other forums and shite spouted on here, tell me why Texan Z's running in 110 degree heat run FMIC's no problem.

That's the problem on here people read and listen to BS too often

Someone please tell me why FMI's are good please from a performance side of things .. because from an aesthetic feel they are the *****cks!

thanks

Yes and you included Next you will be saying Texans Z is 1600bhp runs a standard plen and stays under 80 degrees

if you have two smic say 12 inches long each or one fmic at 24 inches wouldn't they be the same

Bit of useful reading, may blow your mind a little but will help with understanding aims and requirements of a well built/run intercooler system, a well built and successful engine is all about matching the correct components, not a mismash of various components bunged together which will work but not at the true potential possible if that makes sense

No, i'm waiting for all you lot who are trying to justify the "facts" that SM's are better than FM's trouble is we (UK) dont have enough experience with FM's on Z's, they've been tested to death over there.

I have the FM and the subject was not about big turbos with FMIC's its about a normal Z, now here is a FACT for you

Con's

Restrict Air to rad. Must have uprated Rad and fully efficient cooling

Require Repositioning of oil cooler

More pressure drop = more lag

Wont fit behind all bumpers

May require removal of Front foglights

Doesnt restrict any air going to the rad if fitted correctly.

how is it a con to move the oil cooler to the stock IC location ? perfect place.

on a stock tub'd Z there is NO extra lag FACT

Will fit behind all bumpers even a stock bumper, just needs trimming

doesnt require removal of fogs, i just chose to.

So there's your facts ;) :D :smash:

Chris seems to think that the FMI's are cool ... can you let us know bud to your reasoning behind this, not going against you here but everything I have read goes for SMI's?

Sorry bud .. posted but you had as well .. LOL

As above mate :)

Well I must admit .. I would go for the FMIC for looks everytime and if it doesn't bugger up performance then all the better as far as I am concerned.

It DOES restrict the air going to the rad no matter how you fit it,what planet are you on LOL? So SM and FM have exactly the same air flow to the rad?

Why would anyone that has half of a brain want to fit a FM intercooler using stock turbos and stock injectors? Those tiny piss poor ones that Nissan fitted are more than enough with those mods.

Some bumpers do require removel of the fogs and some front bumpers need hacking out much more than others.

So there are some FACTS that are 100% spot on and not some complete and utter shite that I just read on some goons site

FMIC blocks rad...at least 1/3rd of it...sometimes more depending on what fmic. That is fact. Its obvious by just looking at one fitted.

Greg Dupree runs 9 sec quaters with SMIC's, as does Escort racing. The two fastest zed's there is with smic's !?

True, they have much more experience of FMIC vs SMIC over there..thats why they recommend SMIC ;)

Cheers Ryan ... will have a read of this bud.

Not that i'm getting into the smic vs fmic but if your planning 5-600 or less bhp then uprated smic are more than enough.

Just to pour a little fuel on this ;) ive now had 2 zeds both running fmic and NEVER had any problems with lag or over heating??

TBH and this in my own personnel opinion if you look at ANY big performance car and they all run a front mount? there standard fit on all skylines, evos etc

i'll put money on mine runs no hotter than anyone with SM's

Only bumper i can think of is Chris Nelsons

David i couldnt give 2 shiny shites what GD runs, were not on about 9 second Z's :headvswal

Ok Mike two points

You may have had two zeds running FMIC but your first Z had stock tubs so how can that count you were not running serious power?

Your Z now is not running serious power (yet) when it is them come back and make a valid comment;)

Any big performance car runs a FM Skylines evos etc?

Come on you would look a real twat running two Sm on an Evo or liner

Just for the record as Legrath pointed out the FASTEST 1/4 mile Z runs SM I wonder why  ;)

Again total *****cks IMHO see above dumbo

lol dont listen to me i'm just vain thats why i like FMIC

but seriously even in very very hot weather in my yellow zed it never had any heating problems, and i had aftermarket gauges ;)

i would say lag wise you would be hard to actually feel any difference?

must admit my plastic fog cover had to be trimmed a little to fit the HKS FMIC but you didnt have to remove it, saying that the newer ones i think fit with no cutting needed?

What i mean is mate i'm sure if having a fmic caused overheating problems by restricting enough airflow to the rad they would have never made it with a fmic??
