COSSIE POWER

Not having experienced Cossie ownership - there is something that I would like to know.

Would a 500BHP Z be faster/quicker than a 500BHP 4x4 Saph' Cossie?

I know there are different things to consider like gear ratios and power curves but at what level of would a Z need to be upgraded to, to level the straight line performance of a 2.4 500BHP 4x4 Cossie running around 35PSI?

Has anyone had experience with Cossies that can offer some comparison?

All IMHO of course.

Tim Stock engine yes! But if you want to take it up to 300/400bhp Make no mistake you will need engine rebuilds it's a 2 litre FFS!

My mate had a 380bhp Sapphire 4x4 new pistons every year and a wapping 9mpg.

OK BOYS - HOLD THE PHONE

When I started this thread, I didn't intend for it to become a ford slagging zone.

Due to my age and insurance restrictions, I was unable to own one of the purring Ford monsters at the time that they first started making their mark. I still drule over the RS500s now. The saphs dont really do it for me any more and the escorts cossies definately dont press any of my buttons but as someone said before, it's personal preferance.

I did however drive a Vauxhall for a fair few years and recon that the build quality between Vauxhall and Ford at the time was similar with Vauxhall maybe a tad in the lead but obviously the Vauxhall's handling and stability manager was on extended leave when they built the Astra and Cav.

Getting back to the issue, the reason I asked this question in the first place was because i have a friend who had a 500BHP 2.4Ltr 4x4 cossie - (which needed rebuilding every 6 months, I might add). It was one of the fastest cars in the midlands at the time. Now, everytime he gets in to a fast car, he compairs it to the Cossie. He said a 300BHP GT4 Celica wasn't anywhere near as fast, or a 350BHP Soup or even a WRX Scooby.

What would it take to get close to his rememberance of the Cossies power. Now I'm taking in to consideration that it's been 4 years since he had it and may have forgotten how fast it was and therefore wasn't as fast as he remembers it.

Do any of you BIG POWER Z boys have any "Off the lights" experiences?

Hi Timmy

Well, after tralling through the slag off zone I didn't really get any good references so now I'm just fishing for anything I can get.

No offence people.

May have something to do with the fact that the cossie engine was based on the Pinto lump which started it's life back in the late 60's.

JUST FOR YOU COS! Ok I have owned both, don't need to go into all that again.you know what I think.A 500bhp Cossie and a 500bhp Z would be close, the Cossie I think would do it off the mark, on weight alone and what would happen after that??? don't know until you get them against eachother.

we have a moto at work about the name ford

'F'ix 'O'r 'R'epair 'D'aily = FORD

Alright then Cos mate, this is like asking how long a piece of string is FFS!

You honest believe that you're gonna get a sensible and accurate answer to the question you've asked?

My advice is find someone with a 500bhp Z(very few and far between) and someone with a 500bhp 4x4 Sapphire Cossie then hire out the Pod for the day and see for yourself mate!

Sorry mate, but I thought the whole thing was a fucking piss take! wink.gif

my experience with anything light and 4wd is of being eaten up until mid 2nd gear then it's even stevens top of 2nd gear starting to catch then into 3rd.....

Bear in mind that a 500hp 4cyl lump won't deliver anywhere near the same amount of torque as a 500hp v6 lump..

I've been nearly dusted by a highly modded GTi-R on the strip in terms of et's but terminal speeds were quiiite different and I flew past him at the traps...

I think you'll find the cossie will leave the z behind at the start for weight/traction reasons. As speeds get closer to 100mph then the z will take over with a slippery body and monster torque...

Yeah maybe bullet proof to stock and maybe a litlle more, but just looking on Autotrader I can see 6 cars who have had to power up and had an engine rebuild

IMHO too. biggrin.gif
