My bonnet cable has snapped, does anybody have any tips on how to get it open easily ! :headvswal

Featured Replies

never done it, but what i would do is jack the front of the car up, remove any front bumper undercovers (if they are there) and see if you can reach the catch from underneath.

depending where it snapped the cable runs through the drivers side wing, u might be able to strip the casing back enough to pull the cable

Try to take the nose panel out ,I lifted the bonnet a bit and got a small socket in

Thanks for the tips, I will try and open this weekend and feedback which approach worked for me.

Thanks for all the responses to my request for help "My bonnet cable has snapped, does anybody have any tips on how to get it open easily ".

Try my method first it might save a lot of nuckle and paint scraping or even the cost of a new front panel !!

After reviewing all the advice I went back to the car and decifered that the  cable was not snapped but had come out of its location as per other peoples experiences.

I tried the method of lifting the bonnet edges and attempting to hook a wire to trip the catch, I could not even lift the bonnet enough to get the wire in !

I then ordered another front panel in preparation for cutting a hole in mine, this cost45 quid and took 5 days to arrived.

Before I could bring myself to butcher my original front panel, I went back to the bonnet pull in the foot well. Thinking clearer it became obvious that the cable had not snapped as the pull would only come out about 3", it also would not push back home fully in its guide. This made me think that if it jumps out of its location when you drop the bonnet it might be possible to push the pull handle and get the cable to jump back into its original location.

I jiggled the pull handle back and fourth a few times, pushing it in quite hard and with in a few seconds I felt some resistance when i pulled back out, hey prestow the bonnet popped open !!!

If only I had tried this first I could of saved a lot of hassle and 45 quid ! DOES ANYBODY OUT THERE WANT TO BUY A STANDARD FRONT PANEL, IN RED WITH A GOOD 300ZX BADGE ? I now have one spare and am open to offers.
