Hi guys, this is probably a stupid question, What does a HICAS eliminator do? Would it be a solution to turning this bloody light off? I know why its coming on now, my speedo doesn't work, but have no clue how to fix that either!

From what i read, this HICAS system is crap anyhow!

try to things first

 

check power steering fluid reservoir as this acts as two systyms feeding the hicas and powersteering if levels are low light will come on

 

if steering wheel has been removed then it may not of been put on 100% true and left the hicas hub at the incorrect angle!

 

check plug coming for hicas and clean if nes

 

as for speedo if it is an import it may of had a speedo conversion done,remove the clocks and hood etc,and check the wire from the speed sensor to the speedo convertor hasnt worked loose or the converter is faulty,this could also be the fault with the hicas light staying on,im guessing the rev counter works its just the sppedo that isent working

If speedo is not working the hicas light will come on.

the hicas systym in its day was good,the problem is worn arms and bushes from the hicas makes the whole setup feel strange its down to the driver and which you prefer,i personally dont mind it.

 

hicas eliminator sits in place of where the hicas unit is and the fluid lines looped for return as there not needed,thus in turn removes the hicas.

if you have a worn HICAS system do you have to just put an eliminator on and problem solved or replace the worn parts first

Ok so HICAS is good if you keep it maintained & working.

 

Seems to work ok on my car, that is I sense no wander, no looseness in the rear end....but no benefit ...... heres my thoughts..

 

If the general principal of four wheel steering helped cars to get round corners it would be on more modern fast cars. I would say that it could have been developed and made MUCH lighter and maintainance free.

 

Has it been and gone, a nineties idea ....... if it were any good it would be on Mercs BMWs Porches (or maybe it still is, help me out here) ??

 

Im not an expert on suspension, im trying to use common sense...

I reckon mines coming off, not a bad idea just not good enough to survive natural selection.

so i would still have to replace the worn arms aswell. because i you do i dont see the point in putting an eliminator on

almost true yes you may still have worn arms but some people find it better with out the hicas,check and replace if nes any worn bushes rod ends etc then go from there,i find without hicas when i get the backend out i need to think to get it back straight! rather than just centralise the steering wheel,horses for courses

You dont need a hicas bar to lock the rear steer up it can be done with a tomei machanical hicas lock kit .This saves the hassle of blocking pipes up and removing rear rack not 100% sure how it works there is a picture of it on driftworks site in there shop section £125 .Im thinking about getting one.

Looks like it plugs into the Hicas pas fluid connector to disable it electronically. The same effect can be had for free by disconnecting the connector and bridging the electrical pins.

 

They you fit the metal discs to the hicas unit ends to lock it.

 

Hmm....I would just fit a Hicas eliminator. Same price, just as simple to fit and saves weight.

I think hicas is great when in good working order . This thing could save your life oneday! Many years ago on a very excited road test in the rain traveling around the 130mph mark. i had to avoid another car pulling into the fast lane just infront of me. Nissan had told us at the dealers this system was good but how can you tell?

I had to make a quick stab at the wheel to avoid this car and the Z changed lanes like she was on rails in the wet! any other car would have put us in the trees.That i know for sure . When these cars were new all the systems on them worked better than any other car of its time . stick with hicas . get all your shocks bushes and joints in order and it works so so well.

HICAS light doesn't come on straight away, it comes on about 5 minutes after starting driving! As for my speedo, it turns out the change from KPH to MPH was done with a sticker kit, no conversion box! Does this mean my car is still limited on top end speed too?
