As one who grew up in the East End of London (although I'm NOT a cockney) I can say that most of them are modern variants, commonly used by people from all regions in the UK nowadays just to sound fashionable. (Isn't the term Mockney?)

Only one or two of the terms there are real cockney rhyming slang. Inded the real thing is a dying trait, although there are still some "traditional" cockneys (young and old) in some parts of London keeping the old language alive.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

 pass the dog and bone me old china then go up the apple and pears and press my whistle and flute , be carefull though theres a monkey in the socket...

I found this http://www.cockneyrhymingslang.co.uk/cockney/letter/C.aspx and was just wondering if these where correct?? As I cannot believe " I am going to the Coochie coo" Zoo. LOL. Any Cockneys out there??

Mostof the phrases in that site are cobblers - which is real rhyming slang for balls (cobblers awls) but as someone else said the language is developing all the time so there is no true right and wrong. The test is wheteher people from the area use the slang. A lot of people just say anything that rhymes but that's just jumping on the bandwagon.

I have seen tons of things that talk about rhyming slang and a lot of it is American and is meaningless.

Grumpy East London boy

i grew up with greyhound trainers in the family, and meet people from all over the country. they use shortened rhyming slang

ie: they say "mincers" as in mince pies = your eyes

it usually gets used in a phrase like " use your fookin mincers, ya blind bastid, that dog won by a mile, now fook off or i will pull balls off and choke ya death with them, and dont forget to leave me 5 scores on the table"

Tranlastion= "my good man use your eyes, that racing greyhound won considerably, now would you mind leaving my establishment, and dont forget to leave your 100 pound wager on the dining table before you leave-good day"

ive been on the nelson mandella all night lol
