Evening

I'm trying to connect up a new External DVD writer to my pc and having problems.

I bought a PCI Card with slots for a firewire connection, which the DVD writer uses.

The Japlish instructions say if using IEEE1394 and XP then the drive is plug and play and the drivers CD is only needed if using a USB2.0 cable.

In "my computer" I get the icon "DVD-RAM Drive (F: )" when plugging it in, and it appears on my hardware list in the system folder in control panel, but the icon changes to CD Drive (F: ) within a few seconds. When I double click on it an error message box says "F: is not accessible. Incorrect function" I can eject the DVD tray using the PC so something must be right.

Might be worth noting that I have A DVD-Rom drive and a CD Writer on the PC. Typical that the fascias aren't interchangeable though eh!

Initially I tried moving the jumper as it wasn't recognising it at first. The jumpers on the two media drives mentioned were both on the left, so I figures that the new drive should match, as neither of the initial two were master previously I assume. The PC then recognised that the new drive was connected... but it won't work

Cheers

Pete

Ooop hang on, seems to work ok through Nero.

Can you not 'explore' a DVDRW drive when a blank disc is inserted like any other type of drive?

I've had this on mine a couple of times, and I use Roxio (similar to Nero), can be a bit of a pain in the arse! Glad your sorted mate.
