PTU problems then read

Ok this has probably been brought up before but I was reading through the 300zx FAQ and found this

***

Were there any recalls on the 300zx?

YES! There was one recall, on the power transistor unit. This part will sometimes just "die," preventing the car from running, or other times it will "limp home" but not run well. It is approximately a $250 fix, but Nissan can and will do it for free. If you've had it fixed and paid for it in the past, you can call Nissan and try to get reimbursed. Also, if you've just bought a used car, or don't know if the part has been replaced, you can call 1-800-Nissan-1 and ask one of the operators if your car has had the recall performed. (They'll just ask you for the VIN number). If it has not been done, by all means, schedule an appointment to have it replaced.

I think Nissan have to honour a recall for life, (Rover have been known to replace parts on MG's from the 60's)

You just have to live in the US.... (the recall is not applicable to UK/Japanese models)

Hows about having an american friend who just *happens* to have your VIN number, calling nissan america and asking for the replacement unit then sending it across the pond with *GIFT* written on the packet??? wink.gif Oh, it just so happens I have an american friend biggrin.gif Unfortunately though for you guyZ you can find your own cos this one I know would not have 25 UK Zeds biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

Nissan will only exchange the PTU ONCE for any given VIN.

If you happen to have an US-Spec Z in Europe, then Nissan will do the recall for you.

I had quite lenghtly letters with Nissan about the above....:-(

You better try to get a spare PTU from a junkyard in the USA, or from someone who totalled his Z.

Zee you
