incorrectly registered. Happens a lot. I think Jeff @zedworld had one with a new 52 registration a few months ago.

Its definatly a series 1.

Dont call me shirley!! :slap:

it WAS pretty easy for a trader to state the car was registered in japan later than it was ie state a 1991 was '94 etc, ive actually stated one was a few months older to avoid the sva i had a late 94 that by a few months needed an sva, and at that time the import papers were VERY hard to decipher

so wasn't hard, believe it or not dvl used to check this more than making a car newer than it really was,

all import papers have changed so is VERY hard to do now, but i know it's still done, usually it's only the people that know the model (ie as above) who get on to it, so always worth checking a newly imported car and doing your homework on specs;)

Yep, that one looks like it has Series I a/c and interior too.

It's easy to tell from the chassis numbers, Series II started in Aug 1992.

if thats the case mine being a k reg would that still be a series 1 then?

because the interior points at series 1

Yep deffo a series1 .. ive got a series 2 and while were on the subject did they have a change in engines etc on the NA as when mine was at Marks (Topless) having some work done, he mentioned i had a diff CAS late injectors etc ... would this have been released on a 93? or was i just lucky?

John

The reg plate definitely isn't the best thing to go on: I've got a K-plate, which is a series 2 with seatbelts on pillars etc. Only way to tell is by looking. It is pretty crazy that you can get away with saying a '90 is a '94 though. Just goes to show it's worth knowing what you're looking for on the different series models.

Sad to say this is rife through out import car dealers and I expect not just on the 300zx, any model that had only small changes in the different year models can fall victim to this.

I hate having to tell customers there pride and joy hass benn wrongly registered but if I don`t am I doing them a diservice?

The real problem this causes is it seriously messes up the values when a dealer sells say a 1990 car as a 1994 car but at 1990 prices so it sells quickly it makes 1994 cars look less valuable than they should be by the casual observer.

He also lists it as having a airbag. That would make it a series II.

actually LOOKS a tidy car, mentions the prop shaft bearing being a common problem, so probably knows about them, as the car was first registered in 1997, hardly likely this seller is trying to hoodwink anyone?

and the price it's at at the moment doesn't really matter what year as long as you know what your buying;)

Received this response from R Wilde (autoparc).

Legally – it is correct.

Whats the issue? If you have any concerns – don’t bid – simple!

He doesn't seem too bothered about the facts.

Of course he is not bothered about the 'facts', he is only bothered about selling for good money......typical.

1st thing to check is the label on the seatbelts it will state year of manufacturer if they have been removed look in the rear light covers in the boot says the year on them

my car was a series 2 had the later velour seats and directional air con/heater

seatbelts on the rear qtrs etc,the ptu was a series 1,even though they call it a series 2 ptu i dont think they were fitted as standard until series 3 or 4

how can you tell the a/c is series 1 from the pics

Series 1 shows ambient temp, series 2 doesn't IIRC. That looks like it's got an AMB label on the pod..

i might not be looking right but that a/c looks like mine and mine is a series 2 (suppose to be)
