My T61 Supra is sadly for sale to pay off my debts of so i can move house.

However i have to have a nice car and have always liked the 300.

I have been slightly put off in the past by rumors of not so bullet proof reliability, and after seeing one for sale with large repair bills it has me thinking again. Is there any truth in these rumors?

Any comments,

Thanks

Buy a standard well looked after one and maintain it correctly and it'll soldier on for a long time. Plenty of dogs (including mine) that have been ****ed about with which need rectifying.

Thanks mate. At the prices you can pick these up for i can image there are allot of neglected examples where people have not realised how much it costs to maintain these cars.

Anything you can suggest to look out for?

Has anyone driven both a tt supra and 300 tell me how they compare in driving experience?

Depends on what you want and what your budget is. There are some very nice modded examples, but you'll be paying for these. Best off looking for a tidy original example with a standard low mileage engine. Look at spending around £4000 - £5000 for something nice.

Take someone who knows what they are looking at. I had a bit of bad luck with mine. Whilst mine is low mileage, good condition and seemingly standard, it had the engine buggered about with before it left japan. Had a boost controller removed and bodged back together, actuator plugs taken off. Unfortunately, I now have to fit a new engine.

Unless you're sure of the history, go for one as mechanically standard as possible.

Ive owned both cars and i must admit i prefer the 300 for road presence and feel ans touch wood so far mines been very good, however i do mis the amount of room that the supra has in the engine bay lol but i dont think you would be disapointed if you bought one.

I used to have an mr2 turbo and I used to have an mr2 turbo and missed taking the roof off , also how easy it was to control and throw around, a very nimble car. I know the 300 is obviously larger but am i likely to get some of that pleasure back?

Probably keep the car mostly standard, other then some breathing upgrades. Are the turbos ceramic on the 300 and what boost is it safe to run them on? (Sent fare too much with turbo problems on the supra)

They aren't bad once uprated a bit. They are heavy and the back end likes to go out, but that adds to the fun a bit I guess.

Standard turbos and ICs are good for about 14PSi giving quite an increase in performance.

ive had both, well i had a single turbo'd supra so difficult to compare but i always go back to the zed and thats after 2 skyline GTR's so there must be something about them ;)

jonnyz32 has a supra tt and a 300 tt and he loves his supra??

Welcome. Its going to Drive and feel similar to the Supra rather than the Mr2. They are both about the same weight and size(supra and zed that is).

Although I've heard that the Zed is more enjoyable and has more character than the Supra. Can't comment personally.

Stock turbo's are effiecient till 18psi, however stock injectors max out at about 15-16psi and the stock intercoolers aren't doing their job pass this point.

Most run 14psi as a safe level on stock engine, turbos, injectors and intercoolers.

(stock is 9.5 psi)

personally i love supras!

Then again i love me zed too, or will when its running correctly.

If i had to chose i'd probably have went for asupra but now i own a zed i might have been missing out me thinks

However i would still love a poopra TT

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

how much more performance would you get at 14psi compared to 9.5psi will it feel that much quicker?

300zx tt uk manual bud try and find one box standard ,service history ,garage etc it took me six months to find mine, but now modded it was a good place to start and mine drives like a dream bud ,,good luck

T61 Supra is that a mk IV or mk III.

The 300 is a quantom leap from the mk III supra in evey aspec however I think the standard mk IV has the edge in both performance and agility. However once the Z's HICAS has been removed and a good chip and 14.5 psi upgrade (we're talking £400 to do it right) then you'll find the Z will out perform any supra thats only had £400 of upgrades thrown at it.

Massive difference yeah :)

Have driven both, and i think you will find that most peeps will say that the supra seems to be a bit more tail happy, (they break away very easy) and seems to bounce around alot with stock shocks on ?. But pound for pound in the tunning area you will get more Bhp from the supra.

Both cars have crap std brakes, so look for one thats possibly got a brake upgrade. The supra has a better g/box (auto and manwell).

The heating and ventilation is also better in the supra, but the 300 does have the T tops

With the 300 you do get a lot of car (and probs if ya buy a wrong en) for you money.

.....Both cars have crap std brakes, so look for one thats possibly got a brake upgrade. ........

I put this down to age and use of the cars.

ZX brakes were very good when new compared to most, and the braking system on the UK spec Supra was described by Autocar as one of the best ABS braking systems ever.

These are both heavy fast cars and 10-15 years of hard use will take its toll.

Richard :)

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

The J-spec brakes are dangerous. I have upgraded to the uk 4 pots on my supra.

Its the t-bat and 6 cyclinder engine that interests me with the 300.
