SO after (finally :headvswal ) getting my profec B to work went for a power run or 2 this weekend,. Turbos hit harder and faster and its all great, however when the car is under boost i can here a constant tick/clicking like a relay coming from under the bonnet near the greddy solenoid..

The solenoid is mounted on the drivers side of the bonnet and im sure it is this area the noise is from. Wasnt there before and stops if the profec is turned on...

thing is , is this normal? the car is boosting right but does it show a faulty solenoid? or one that maybe is on its last legs even though its a new profec?

If its normal i can live with it, but if not need to get chris to sort a replacement for me...

cheers guys

you sure your not hearing det(onation) mate?

What boost you running it at?

pretty sure its not det, the clicking starts from about 7psi upwards and the car has a jwt chip.... no power loss and boosts up to near 13psi in hi mode...

its very rapid clicking and isnt there at similar psi with the profec off...

det should have power loss as well shouldnt it, and not happen at 12 psi witha jwt chip either?

I have the same clicking noise in my Skyline, have the same boost controller. If (like me) the soleniod is mounted near the bulkhead you will be able to hear it click as it opens and closes to control the boost. If It opens and closes quickly under low boost / medium load conditions and then goes quiet then it is working fine ( it also ckicks when revs / turbo are working hard but it is unlikly you can here it then).

I remounted mine using rubber washers in the brackets and it is a fair bit quieter.
