I recently acquired a car computer and purchased an in dash touch screen from this company http://www.karputer.co.uk and just wanted to let everyone know what a top company they are offering fantastic customer service. I highly recommend them on my experiences.

Anyway, when the screen is installed pictures will follow!

The screen is going in on thursday, fingers crossed and then it should all be up and running!

Nothing stopping u putting a laptop under the seat, pic a second hand one up cheap.

then connect to the touchscreen.

thought about the laptop thing before as it gives the chance to take it out when you leave the car.... although i have to admit i do really like the din sized pc / din screen solution.... but too far down my list of priorities to happen this year!

I am getting a 7" TFT monitor with my next pay. For a PC i got a £100 ebay Compaq EN P3 1ghz. I will spray it black and put it on the shelf inbetween my front SWB seats and the boot. Need some sort of shock absorbing thingymagig so the hard disk does not die from constant shocks of my lowered zed.

Change the harddrive to a laptop one?

Install 2.5" laptop hard disk with a IDE 3.5" to 2.5" convertor. You'll have no problems with vibration/shocks. It will also consume less power.

how fooking much???????

i shall be testing my hard disk some time in the next few weeks to see it it can handle 154db of bass (fingers crossed) did you make your own skins for media player bud n what sat nav equipment did you use ? ive had a bugger of a time building mine, couldnt find anything small enough that would take a decent graphics card etc, have you got yours blue toothed with your mobile so you can access the 3 w's?

n for those guys using a pc on a mains inverter and running some amps .. run a dedicated cable from the battery to your inverter , if you run it from the amp cable you run the chance of fluctuating voltages into your inverter causing all sorts of problems

I will stick with the 7200rpm 120GB 3.5" hard drive. Ickle laptop hard disks are so slow it does my head in. I was thinking of putting the hard disk in a 5.25" cage with foam around it so it can bob about a bit taking the shock. And the PC would be attached a more rigid rectangle of foam with velcro strips so the PC case can take some shock too.

If you do that mate - make sure you've got ventilation on the HDD - or else you'll cook it...

You can get lappy hard disks now that are as fast as 3.5"'s

There are various Top in-car Front ends available at the moment. Take a look at Centrafuse, Roadrunner, Frodoplayer, Media engine.

Its difficult to recommend a single product as they all have their advantages, however I await with anticipation for the new release of Centrafuse...and I may become an authorised reseller for their Fully commercial licensed version.

I stick to the Mini-itx range, for In-car use with onboard video. Fantastic little boards offering more than enough peformance, but very compact, low noise and low power consumption.

I do have bluetooth running but thats used to connect my mobile to the PC for dialing and receiving calls through the Carputer. WIth full onscreen display and voice through the sound system.

Onboard the PC I use Wifi and GPRS PCMCIA Cards with a permanant sim card installed for Internet access.

From the pics ive seen on the forum people fit the lcd monitor where the 2 DIN stereo slots are, like in Legrath's Zed. But i want to put mine where the centre ventilation grilles are, as mine do bugger all for pushing out air. I just need to modify the centre console rectangular fitting to take the 7" LCD monitor at the top without it looking shabby.
