Just got a new PC and isnatlled an old version (SP1) of XP. When I go onto the likes of the Autotrader site, or the Rides section on this site, very few or none of the images are displayed.

 

Can anyone help?

what firewall you running - sometimes Zonealarm and the like block these.

Happened to me with ebay.

I have McAfee Personal firewall plus (from internet security suite 2006).

 

Also have one on my new motherboard as well though (ABIT NV8)...will have a look at the settings on that.

could be a fierwall that is built into your motherboard

 

some ASUS boards have this :(

i no someone else is having same problem , and they have mcafee as well , ask hellraiser if hes cured it yet??

IMO these all in one security packages are far more hassle than they are worth. I dont use a firewall. Have AVG anti virus and do a Lavasoft Adware spyware scan once a week.

Mate, you really need a firewall. Threes a lot more out there than viruses and spyware :)

 

Your pretty well covered if you have a hardware firewall router - technically you dont need a software firewall but you normally have no outbound filtering, so If a program wants to send/dial something home it can do without your knowledge.

im the same i dont use a firewall cose i play games online all the times and it stops u joining servers.

 

zonealarm is THE worse for this :(

Configured correctly a firewall should be invisible, however, the more holes you have punched in it the greater risk at which you're putting yourself.

agreed Andy, Most people just set them up incorrectly or open all ports :rolleyes: thus making it pointless.

ever tried playing Battle for middle earth with a firewall?

 

it WONT connect to other people even if u set it up right and i should know, played 100's of games online ;)

 

some games will allow you to play with open ports but certain games just dont like it whatsoever :(
