Hi all - well im still looking for a Z,

 

Drove a 1990 Auto N/A yesterday and 1992 Auto TT today.

 

N/A was ok - more responsive than i thought only not that quick off the mark - was a good test drive though, it was dry yesterday and could drive quite hard.

 

TT today..ok well its at an import place and hasnt been registered yet, bloke reckoned it hadnt been started since it got to his garage, there quite a lot of smoke for the first 15mins of it idling in the garage, went for a drive but it was pi**ing down so could really do much, when i did it slid all over the place, (the tyres were all shot - rekons he'll replace all of them for me).

The boost guage looked ok it was well left on idle and got to two bars to the positive side ? (that correct way to say it?!) and from reading the buying guide - thats seems that its ok. WAs a bit dissapointed tho with the test drive as i couldn't really floor due to the wet (and been in the city centre).

It has 77K Kms - and says he's got docs to prove and history from Japan too.

Interior was quite good nick - just the cover to the aircon controls that was a bit loose.

If im to have it - he's giving me 2 grand for my '94 Mr2 N/A and £2300 cash for the Zed - which i think is pretty good.

It will come with full mot and tax and 6 months warrenty.

 

What do you guys rekon?

That aint true. Mine has all documents. And if they cannot verify (my jap company anyway) the milage they will tell you so.

 

ALso, its all to do with taxes out there. When i look at buying from japan, the price of a car alters a lot at 10k kms intervals. They have to pay more as the cars mileage goes up, unlike here where its a flat rate.

 

 

Brum is 2 hours drive form Swansea and vice versa !!!

hello mate, another point to watch out for is the mileage cannot always be believed, i had mine serviced at a jap specialist and importer, he says that nearly all the cars that get imported mysteriously have 50-60k miles on the clock, i find it too hard to believe that no higher mileage cars get brought over, you hardly ever get paperwork from japan and it is way too easy to clock them with no UK history to back them up, all i'm saying is take it with a pinch of salt and look at the car overall

As i said above really. If you dont get the paper work then its dodgy as they all have to be deregistered there first. I have the de reg with previous owners details etc.

 

I see loads of higher mileage cars on the auction site. But why would you get a high miler from there when you can get a lower mileage one??

 

Dont forget, they dont have the ability to clock up huge milage as their roads are so congested. I have imported a 30k kms Zed too. And just got a Scooby Legacy GTB with 99k kms on the clock. So the Zed needs to go..

Dai - yours maybe a possibility this weekend - well coming to see it, if not buying it anyway, would this weekend be ok for you? not saying its a defo - just enquiring. thinking about saturday..

Yeah would be good - im going to try and get a distance from the web on how far Swansea is from Brum - also, has anyone any experiance of Keighley Trade Centre in Yorkshire? Theres a 92' Black TT for sale there?

Yes I drove there from Wales to look at 2 very poor Zeds, I'd stay clear. Also avoid most importers/traders in the Brum area. The best advice I can give you is don't be in a rush to buy one and buy it from an owners club member who's cared for their car.

heheh - just got broadband myself!

Dont bother with these, they are cowboys. The cars look ok in the pics but when you get there you will see that they are grade 1 cars that have just been plonked on there forecourt without any work been carried out.

I've also heard that Keighley Trade Centre should be avoided. Trouble with these import places now is that they are picking up the tat avavilable for next to nothing in Japan mand bringing it over to sell for 2-3 times the price.

 

My advice would be to look at the cars available on this site in the for sale section, the majority of which are owned by knowledgeable and honest guys. You can never guarantee a probelem free Zed, but I think you have a far better chance of finding a good one here. Also think about extending your search....I went all the way to deepest Essex to get my first Zed!

Yeah - i was trying to find the newest i could afford also but really i suppose, if everythings working, serviced etc, it doesnt matter if its say G Plate 1990?

crap grade Zed's in japan are cheap, especially auto ones. so be careful. as said above, dealers (some) seem to buy these and triple the price. can be easy money from the unsuspecting.......
