Why oh why is the 'net so full of shite that you can't find what you want for all the crap on there

I am hoping to buy a Mercedes SLK as a daily driver so I've tried searching on Yahoo, Google etc etc for information on forums, tuning and body styling etc but all I seem to get are crappy links to Ebay adverts, body kits for Chav Escorts and countless sites full of American drivel.

WHY CAN I NOT FIND ANYTHING OF REMOTE INTEREST

I do not have the patience to continue. No fekking wonder I'm bald - the net can be soooooo stressful when you can't find what you want.

Sorry guys

I know that feeling really well. Was looking for info about these: http://atsearch.autotrader.co.uk/www/CARS_popup.asp?modelexact=1&lid=search_used_cars_full&make=TOYOTA&model=HIACE&min_pr=75&max_pr=4000&mileage=&agerange=&postcode=cb4+2as&miles=1500&max_records=200&source=0&photo=1&sort=5&ukcarsearch_full=SEARCH&start=3&distance=80&adcategory=CARS&channel=CARS&id=200602220091180 earlier... I know, I know, I just have a perverse desire to own one, humour me OK... but the fact is there's nothing remotely as good as 300zx.co.uk out there. It's a total PITA. I get it all the time at work as well: there's this whole industry full of people out there who somehow manage to earn a living by writing really noddy IT articles on just about any topic imaginable, which often makes it very difficult to find hardcore technical information when you need it. It's why when you find a decent site (like this) the bookmarks list becomes your best friend because the signal to noise ratio from google, and other search engines, can often be appalling. C'est la vie I guess.

Sooo true

This site is not only so adicitve it is also so informative. Not just on the subject of the 300zx, but one can also ask a completely non-ZX related question (this thread maybe  ) and guaranteed another member out there wil supply a damn good solution

Cheers fellas

Richard :)

Steve Mochan's mate Mike got a 230 AMG for £6500 recently, not bad considering I nearly bought a basic 230 for £15,000 less than 2 years ago

Hi Paul,

That's the one, 230 komp. Looking at spending £10-£12k; seen a couple of nice ones including a silver 1998 car with 31k miles FMBSH at a traders for £9995.

Seen another nice one, silver T reg with AMG kit & alloys 55k miles FMBSH going for £12,995 but I think that may be a little overpriced.....

Is there anything specific I should look out for? What about cam-belt change intervals, or other routine maintnance that I need to check has been done?

Cheers mate,

Richard

no cam belt fitted bud. they are all timing chains & maintenance free ;)

check to ensure service history is up to date. a B service with all the extras runs at about £600+ at a merc dealer. although parts are actually very cheap if you do it yourself.

body parts are cheap on a standard car, tho if you go AMG & need any AMG parts they are about 3x the price!!

brake discs are prone to wearing out but again are quite reasonable in price.

prob the most important part to check thoroughly is the roof! check for operation & make sure it all lines up ok. dont usually suffer with any probs apart from sticking roof switches on early models.

if its fairly high mileage then check for oil leaks from head area.

as i said tho, looked after they are a good solid car :)
