Starter Circuit, Leeking Voltage, Why?

simply put, after a week of pissin about, when i turn the key to crank the starter, theres nothing...

after numberous testing, there is 12v getting to the plug before the starter motor, but as soon as the starter motor is connected to it, and the circuit put under load, theres nothing...

any ideas guys, if not i'm gunna get a push button start tomorrow..

cheers in advance..

Ok young Tony, see here a little lesson in electrical loads, the 12 volts you are seeing is a trace voltage with very little current carrying capacity which due to a bad connection in the circuit is unable to support the circuit load once asked to do so, off load the voltage is substainable because no current is been drawn, as soon as the amperage is drawn the the circuit collapses at the weak point (ie bad connection ) I would suspect you have a faulty starter solenoid relay, this is located in the drivers side front wing behind the plastic splash guard, if you need one give us a bell at the office and will put one in the post to you.

lol.. cheers Jeff, its been a long time since i was so out of my depth reading a post, but i sorta get what ur saying, thanks for the reply...

the starter i bought turns out to be not working at all, which didnt help.. BUT after my dodgy alarm was replaced and my mate had a poke around at least it stopped blowing fuses...

this morning it went in for the new suspension, and my mechanic refitted my old starter and **** me everything was spot on and working again, no blowing fuses, nothing...

so i dunno what it was really, the wiring loom was touching the exhaust which is now sorted, and the faulty alarm replaced, maybe it was one of these things, who knows..

i'm still gunna get a push button start just for any emergencies, because the fact we didnt definitely find the problem means that its very likely to appear again at sometime..

thanks for all your help and advice Jeff, very much appreciated.. also to Luke at ZCentre for the fuses and help..

dunno mate, as i said, its all spot on now, with the OLD starter motor back in.. i'm sure this will happen again, until then i'll just put a contingency plan in place and wire in a direct starter in addition to the stock starter circuit (well I wont, my mechanic will.. lol)
