Hey all

Just used the Parker's link from Exchange & Mart and the WhatCar link from Auto trader to value our Corsa, which we are planning to get rid of.

It's a 2000 W reg 1.4 sport 16v (top of the range) with 50k miles FSH (we've owned it for 5 years), air con etc etc and the TOP dealer price says £2600 - private sale around £2395.

YET, when I look at cars for sale in both E&M and Auto Trader there are basic 1.0 and 1.2 models (without even electric windows) the same age and mileage being offered for sale at £3,500  That's not just the odd few - it seems to be the going rate - anything between £3-3500 FFS.....

Thing is my receptionist at work would like it but after checking the so-called price guides, then seeing what price they are actually being advertised at I have no idea how much to ask for it.

Anyway - does anyone want a nice, tidy reliable daily driver........ ;)

Richard :D

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

So give it to her then.... ;)

And the car

That sounds about right to me bud. Vauxhalls deprecate terribly :(

ive never gone off the price guides in these books, cos nine times out of ten they are usually way off.......IMO of course!

i look through the autotrader and see how much similar cars are going for and then base my price on that.

yeah agree, whilst the trade will always use these guides for trade ins etc (e.g the Glasses guide) they never seem to reflect the private sellers market, after all its worth what ever someone is willing to pay for it,

IIRC-when you have a dispute with an insurance company over a payout you can usually show them autotrader adverts to assertain the true market values of your vehicle,

look on the autotrader and put your price between the average and top askin prices for the similar cars if you want to get rid of it quickly. I'm sure she will have looked on autotrader and seen the prices of similar cars so she'll be aware of how much she should be looking at to spend. And if she thinks she's being done out of a few bob tell her to look on the website and she will see the other cars and that your being reasonable!

Mind you, if you ask her for too much cash and she thinks she's being ripped off then she'll never take her out for a ride so you might be better off asking for the price in the guide and getting her to pay you the rest in kind! ^^
