Nothing is ever easy

After my car went into the tuning garage we need to do a few bits on the car so started measuring up for some new pipework to go onto the turbos and to modify or make up some new engine mounts and we have surcome to the fact that we need to take the engine out!?

So much for a ready made/built car lol

But at least with the engine out we can do a few other jobs!! on the list so far:

Fit EDFC onto suspension

Fit Custom 80mm pipework onto turbos and route them to either sides or middle and connect to 2 x AFM's and filters

Re make all the hard pipes

Remove the aircon

Remove all the hicas

Fit border fuel rail and 850cc injectors

Fit FPR

Fit Strut Brace

Get Plenum, Balance bar, ower steering pump cromed

Paint Cam covers

Relocate Oil cooler

Relocate FMIC to straighter position

Replace most of the silicon pipework with braided

Fit Catch Tank

Erm thats all i can think of the top of my head and when all the above is done then its more money as im having a new standalone ECU fitted and mapped :) Oh and then will start thinking about the bodykit to be fitted and painted

gonna take a week of prob last week this month or first week in march and do it in a week, last time we took an engine out it took us about 4 hours to do it but we left the gearbox on it

Did you know border do a large diameter intake pipework kit?

May not be any use with FMIC or too expensive, but might be worth a look?

Hi John

Yeh ive seen it but not much use to me im afraid as my turbo inlet is 80mm!! at the moment theres nothing on it what so ever just fine meshing?? which is not great in this country lol but the main problem we are having it the turbo on both sided are hard up against the mounts and on the drivers side is also civered slightly by the mounting arm so ive bought a tig welder and a 90mm pipebender to make our own pipes up :)

Ouch, never understood why the japs think that's a good idea! You might be able to taper it down a bit to get it past things, but the angle needs to be shallow to avoid large pressure drop so you still won't have much room. Just worth bearing in mind that a 90mm pipe with a sharp bend will probably be more restrictive than a slightly smaller less bent one. Will try to dig out the equivalent diamaters table I have (it's ages since I did any fluid dynamics).

Good luck with it, sounds like a right PITA!

Yeh it is looking hard work but its gonna be easier with the engine and turbos etc on a stand. I think i'm gonna take the 80mm down to 60mm and run 60mm pipework so make things a little easier

Mike the fabrication for mine was a bloody nightmare! The engine was in one day and out the next so Peter could make sure every thing was spot on.

Ask Russ how many times he saw the engine lowered onto the mounts and lifted back out LOL.

It will be all worth it in the end you will see;)

As you can see very close to the engine mounts with 80mm pipes.
