Well my Father and I finally got round to putting back the engine and gearbox (which we rebuilt Christmas)

Damn thing wouldnt start at first, but then problem found to be someone had washed out the inlet manifold with parrafin and not dried it thouroughly enough  doh! (yes that was me btw..........)

So I pulled the plugs out, dried the cylinders out and warmed the soaking spark plugs up.

Fired up great then, just revved to 2500 rpm and a limiter came in. All that was was the AFM plug had worked loose.

Big thanks goes out to John Dixon  . Working well into the night with me to remove $hit loads of gubbins the Z doesn't need, brackets, pipes, water bypass, etc etc before the engine was put back in. The bloke's a genious and knows Z32's inside out.

We bagged just shy of 12kg of crap removed when we finished. Astounding. Less stuff to go wrong now though ;)

All that's left now is to fix clutch master cylinder and tackle the rusty sill. Should be on the road for March. Got some Volk Racing Challenge to fit at some point also :duffer:

A couple of vids also, I am running divorced downpipes now with de-cats (no silencers) and no baffles in rear at all. completely straight through. It is not actually all that loud IMHO, but the camera cant cope lol.

Great news mate....

Know how long youve been working on this one and the effort gone into it...

Good on you bud, when I rebuilt my last one I had about 12kg of bits I HADN'T planned on taking off!!

blimey thats responsive ,, has it had any upgrades internally,, ?

was going to say the same thing myself, you got an underdrive pulley and/or light flywheel on that?

Thanks for response guys :D Can't wait to get some MOT and tax on her now :hyper:

Steve, thanks mate :duffer: now get cracking on your supercharger/turbo setup

Greg, indeed mate

Royal, LOL yep that happend first time round in 2000 ;)

John, what do i say but thanks. Cant wait for the E-01 now

To Paul Stevens & Si, stock pistons, rods, crank & pulleys (very fooking heavy :headvswal ) flywheel had only 1kg skimmed off it when we did the clutch back in 2003.

I really do want to make and fit some aluminium pulleys (not underdriven) to see if that helps response a bit.

MantaV8, first fireup?.... have i connected EVERYTHING? Are all the bolts tight? is the battery charged? Went ok once we dried the manifold and plugs out. An old skool fix lol. Dad said it sounded like it was flooded ;)

And last but not least just on the off chance that he is reading it, Dad thanks a million mate. Without you the engine build back in 2000 wouldn't have got me on the road in the first place. Will let you borrow it in the summer before your 350z and stillen supercharger is completed..... then we race lol! :wack:

That sounds very nice, what exhaust system is on it?

http://www.zees.co.jp

It is a ZEES EX rear half system. Megan racing stainless de-cat & divorced wastegate front half.

There are only 3 silencers in system, 1 in middle and 2 rear boxes. All are straight through not composite baffles :xxx:

Nice one Rob, great news. Lol@the pile of bits! You know when John's been round as your car suddenly runs properly and you have a pile of bits left over that weren't much use in the first place...Exhibit A, m'lud  :

A real hands on expert with the Z32 who actually knows what he's talking about.

Hey Leigh

whats happened to your Journal and how far alone are you and JD with the transplants and all your customisation.

Yep Dunk I've also had the JD "you don't need that experience" filled a whole dust bin with the crap. He's a bit of a star and a really sound guy taboot.

Alright Mark, long time no speak chap! Decided to save it and pull it from this site as I don't spend much time on here anymore for reasons that aren't appropriate to go into on Robs thread (you know where I'm coming from...some people STILL won't let sleeping dogs lie *sigh* ;))

Engine wise, we're nearing the final straight. Once Johns is back after some minor bodywork bits have been sorted things should progress very quickly. We've even talked about fitting my engine into John's Zed so when his returns from CTM we perform a straight swap on each.

The bodywork is coming on leaps and bounds. Halfway through, we decided to ditch the original Stillen sideskirts, design and shape new ones (more like DTM style running boards than sideskirts, Lol! :D) and redesign the "look" as a whole so now everything is totally custom. It's a LOT of work but everything is on target for this years show season...fingers crossed and Acts of God aside ;) :D

Sigh, I see Dumb "n" Dumber are back, Must be real exiting at the Z Club! :x:

^^ Lol! I couldn't ask for a neater explanation of one of the reasons we're not on here so much if I'd tried! ^^

Hey, at least no threats of physical violence this time which I guess is an improvement! :D

I dont do threats mate....See you at JAE 06 :) Gotta a pool of water with yours & Johns name on it! :x:

Ooooh Not water! Don't you know us dumb ****ers dissolve in that stuff. Give it a rest eh mate. I've never even met you so no idea what your problem is.

Mark, I've now got all the engine internals made, just took ages because they're bespoke. Pistons are moly coated slippers, flat top will give 12:1CR. Rods are farndon H section.

Waiting on pace to manufacture a new crank pulley to drive the alternator and dry sump pump then the bottom end can be assembled and balanced. Cams are 29/69 69/29, 11mm which is pretty big for a road car, especially as they're a mechanical profile so the total lift profile is much more than those figures would make you think. Expecting the power band to be ~3.5-8.5k with peak torque probably 5k (at least that's what I'm tuning the headers for). Intake is still going to depend on what I can fit 100-200mm runner length into and still get a good cold air feed in. Probably be an air box on each side with the 4 throttles into the back of it but they may cross from the opposite bank or loop round from the same side.

Headache at the minute is going to be feeding the oil into the engine with out getting too much DP from having to go 180 degrees out of the filter housing.
