Looking to have the engine rebuilt during the next month, while the car is away having the bodywork done. I have been speaking to Traders and 300zx members for advice, thanks everyone. The following Turbo's have all been recommended, any more views? pro's or con's on these?

JWT530

PE1420

GT28R

To go with which ever Turbo I choose, Im planning on

555 Injectors

Koyo Rad

SMIC

Wiseco Forged Pistons

and possibly

New Rods (poss Eagle)although stock should be strong enough

New Cams (my car was Auto, now Manual)

Thanks again for everyone Ive spoken to over the past week or so.

well i hate to be the bearer of that news, but it is infact true and the TD t28's boosted well before the HKS ones did and funny enough mine are kicking out 475lb of torque and all for a grand less than HKS, Oh and to quote your own words after driving my car, "this has gotta be one of the fastest cars i've had in and man so torquey" and i never knew you were qualified to open up a set of Tubs and know what parts were in it to know the design was crap, interested to know how ? just so no one else makes that mistake of course

Kirbz, these were not the same t28's as are commonly known, their design is a TD one and designed for the Zed in particular :)

Paul it seems that you have been very lucky in a few respects, previous people that have bought your very turbo's (forum members aswell) both had to have them removed in under 5k miles due to premature failure, I spend a lot of time with the likes of turbo technics and Owen developments at there facilities (without doubt two of the largest and well respected turbo manufactures in the UK) this is not only for personal gain in terms of info but to benefit ZTech in future turbo designs, and in terms of bad design when one of these companies recieves a turbo and says this must be one of Turbodynamics due to the poor design and quality of parts used then you tend to listen , but hey I only work on zeds 6 days a week with over 75 turbo replacements to date and these people only build turbo's 5 days a week unlike your good self who just re-sells other peoples via a data sheet.

Paul unlike you we do not have the luxury of passing off second rate products because we have to actually work with the products we fit and offer a warranty on said products all IMHO of course

I seem to recall Pete at SE who again is well respected in terms of his knowledge rate the turbodynamics turbos as one of the worst he has seen now are you telling me that you are correct and all these well known and well respected people and companies are wrong

at the end of the day all of the above is in my own opinion but I would hate to see any other members/zed owners part with good money for a less than adequate quality product

Ryan

Mods, can you please move this last post to off topic section, i really would love to reply but feel it unfair to Bazza's thread requiring help for turbos for me and ryan to get into a slagging off session which his posts, seem to be.

cheers

Nice one Barry, stirring the hornets nest withou even trying... ;)

If Ryan and Paul would like to continue this in the "Off Topic" section, It would be appreciated.

The post is not going to be moved, as it is an opinion, as stated.

Thankyou, Now done.

Bazza sorry things went a bit tits up there bud :)

IMO from all the customers, years and top tuners in the US i've dealt with, My cash goes on the GT675RS, Almost a HKS 2530 being as it has the same parts, but without the lag and a grand cheaper too to boot :) the HKS will flow more at the end, but it's getting there 1st that usually matters....

Good luck

Greg, great idea about the t28's against the 2530 on a sprint, would love to do it sometime just to see what happens :)

Obviously ive ready the post in the other section but just to carry on giving advice to bazza.

I was actually going for a set of the gt675's well same spec ie the disco potato ;)

Now the gt28rs is actually a bigger turbo than the 2530 and can flow more but has more lag, not much more but does have more lag and to be honest for a road car i think may be too big, on the skylines there making 700 bhp from the gt-rs' turbos and about 550-600 from the 2530's but finding the 2530's alot easier to live with and i dont see why the same shouldnt apply to the 300zx.

Yes the HKS turbos are £1000 more but IMHO a worth while extra expense for the sheer proven record them and there turbos have. I just wish Greddy had the same commitment to turbos as HKS have at development of faster spool up turbos.

Like i say its all down to not just what ive read, looked into but also used.

Mike

Possibly cos were V6's mate and the tub should be rated to suit 2x1.5L engines perhaps ?? which the 675rs is, just a thought :)

smithy

the GT28RS is the the same as the JWT 700BB and is quite laggy. But you can get the GT28RS with the smaller exaust hosing (0.64R) which makes it very similar to the HKS kit. The Z1 kit GT675RS uses this smaller setup.
