starter motor blowing ign sys fuse???

long story, basically a couple of weeks ago, while out, i started the car and the starter motor stuck on... i switched off and tried again, it stuck again, but the NEXT time my full ignition system went pop...

anyway, fuse was traced, up under the windscreen on the drivers side, replaced and all was well... got the starter motor cleaned up a bit, seemed fine for a week or so,.

then tonight, was parked up and same again, only THIS TIME it persistently blew the fuse, eventually i had to bump it off just to get home, literally just turning the ignition past the ON stage blew the fuse...

my mates a mechanic, so he rescued me and thinks its the starter motor, its not happy and the fuse keeps blowing because the starter motor is fooked and not responding when its asked to do its job...

does this sound feasible??

if so is this a known issue??

no problems getting a new starter motor, but is there anything i should be aware of here guys..

i feel like a right cock now as i've just finished singing the z's praises.. lol..

Try disconnecting the small cable from the starter solenoid first ( large spade connector) and then try the ignition switch again, this way if it is the starter at fault the fuse will not blow, however if it does blow there is a wiring fault not a starter fault.

thanks Jeff, appreciated, will try that later...

Are your problems anything like mine?

I havent done it yet but I've heard you can touch the starter solenoid cable to the positive main power terminal on the starter to see if the starter can engage and turn. Although you should be very carefull doing this as there'll be a load of power going through those wires.

Actually, just had my starter disconnected and if I put the electrics under load then the circuit breaker goes, so doesn't look like its my starter.

i havent tried what jeff suggested yet as i'm a bit big to get under the car.. lol.. but will take it to a mates garage on saturday..

one of the lads off here has kindly sold me a tarter to try so fingers crossed, if its not that and its in the switch i have a mate who can do it so hopefully ba back on the road soon..
