After much scraping and de-icing at half six this morning I slowly edged my car out of my drive and onto the road

Usual Fan belt squealing to wake the neighbours !!

Eventually got my windows to work up/down and wiped the mirrors off a bit

Full demist and heat on windscreen eventually cleared my view so I could see where I was going - and wipers finally kicked in to clear the last of the ice

But what really freaked me out was the cracking noises all around my head as I picked up speed and joined the motorway -

Turns out it was the Ice on the Targa roof slowly cracking and then letting go as I sped along - very spooky - had to turn the music up to stop it distracting me as I flew along

Think I'll put her under a blanket tonight !!

Comforting to know I'm not alone !!

Intend to get the belt tightened soon - just not got around to it

 same happened tp me this morning heard a loud cracking then thought i had lost a targa panel as a lump of ice disappeared in the rear veiw mirror i even had to stop myself checking the roof as it wasnt getting colder in the car :headvswal

Assume the Targa panel glass is strong enough to take this abuse ?

Have just been down to my car in the works multi-storey and taken a look - all seems ok - checked round the internal joins and seals no signs of any leaks or damage

Got an old car cover in the garage so will use that tonight - although it always leads to condensation when used on previous vehicles I've owned

Adjust the belts or get new ones if required.

Adjust the belts or get new ones if required.

It apparently had all the belts changed last November as part of it's 60K Service - although I got no proof of such in the sales paperwork

Are they easy to adjust ?

Would they need re-tightening again so soon if they were done in November ?

It only squeels in the cold at first start up - and soon stops once car is moving

Any help or advice greatly appreciated

personally if they are squealing they are normally loose will wear a lot quicker as slipping tighten up asap

Thanks - it's on my to do list for this coming week - I'm taking my 280 ZX for it's MOT this week so may ask the same guy to take a quick look and slip him some cash for his trouble - assume it's easiest done while up on a ramp so it can be got at from underneath .... assuming the belts ok he can just tighten what's there

Ice not as bad this morning as I remembered the blanket at about midnight last night ! - still had a bit to sort - but windscreen and targa panels were covered overnight so had a much easier journey this morning

Bodgers delight for noisy fan belts - put some talcum powder on it. Makes it bearable until you get time to tighten it!

Had all the belts done on mine when it got the 60k service and the fan belt needed a slight adjusting after a week,a brand new fan belt tends to settle in and stretch slightly after being replaced.

Very easy to adjust as i did mines myself when it needed adjusted...Max 2 mins, couple of extra mins to remove the plastic engine cover from below the car
