its either release bearing or at worse layshaft, normally release bearing noise dissapears when clutch pedal is pressed in! so if its the other way around?clutch may be suspect if it hasnt been replaced, get the release bearing done at the same time, which normally comes in a new clutch kit anyway, and go from there

How long have you had the car and do you know what kind of clutch you have.

If your car is a import and new to you or if who ever you bought it off spent a lot of money on it. You my have a Twin or tripple plate clutch, but these rattle and grind every time the clutch peddle is depressed. Though you won't hear/feel if sterio is on. If you've got one of these your a very luck man as a good one like an Exeedy will cost around £1550/ £2000 and out last the car what ever you do.

Get it checked out and be present. If the clutch plate housing is metalic pink leave it be or sell it for about £800 and put a nasty ACT or the like in.
