Hi all

I seem to have a prob everytime I start my 300 TT auto. She cuts out everytime I try to engage either reverse or drive. If I leave her to warm up in Neutral for 10 mins or so she seems fine except when I wheel lock to either the right or left. The revs seem a bit eratic at the above times.

The other thing is that I sometimes have to have the ignition key turned for what seems minutes before she fires up. (Sparkplugs???)

The chap that attempted to tune her when I first bought her said she is not firing on all cylinders, could that have something to do with it ???

One last thing..... can somebody please explain what ECU tests and PTU means.

Many thanks (from a noobie owner) in advance.

ptu = power transistor unit (i think)

could be source of the cutting out and not starting problems

the erratic revs whilst turning may have something to do with the speed sensor, but no doubt someone brainier than me will come along and tell you a more accurate solution lol

Is it pos to get a replacement PTU if in deed that will cure my probs ?

yes you can get a replacement but i would try and borrow one first as they are expensive

just try cleaning the contacts on it first, this may help

come on guys, really need some advice on this

the revs always drop when the steering wheel is turned, this is due to the load on the power steering pump

yes, I understand....but surely not to such an extent that the engine cuts out

...in the old days when cars had manual chokes, you'd get the same problem by not applying the choke - so suspect whatever acts as the choke...

come on guys, really could do with some help on this

i take it this is an auto if so make sure your g/box isnt to full of oil !

Check to make sure your getting a spark at each plug also try your afm hth

Try this for the gearbox http://www.twinturbo.net/ttnettech/autodiag/autodiag.html

If it s not firing on all cylinders then thats definetaly going to cause you problems, check all plugs and coil connectors etc.

Try this for ECU http://www.ttzd.com/tech/diagnostictech.html

i had an auto and mine was doing the same thing, especially when running high revs (or driving at high speeds) then slowing down i'd turn the wheel and the car cuts out, was very very annoying and dangerous too.

The problems with mine were i needed a det sensor as this had retarded the timing etc (dreaded code 34).

Also my gearbox was burning the oil and was dead basically, once i have had the gearbox changed it rearly cuts out now (gone to a manual) and then hd the det sensor done.

I hope this helps in some kind of strange way but its just what was happening to me

I have all the rare bits you can't find :tongue:

ernst when was the last time you had it serviced, oil change/plugs/filter etc.

Not sure when it was last serviced, the guy I bought it off has his own garage and there was another Z parked up. He told me he often dealt with Z's and he had done a service on my Z just before I bought it.

Perhaps its time to put her in for a service even if I,m a little afraid of what might be unearthed.

Thanks for all the replies
