Hello all,

Im going to have a look at this car at the weekend. I have read the buyers guide & have scoured the site looking for problems & things to look out for.

I have a couple of questions..... The car is G reg but apparently only has 40k on the clock.... I know some Jap cars have very low mileage but does this sound dodgy for a car of it's age? Apparently the car is near mint inside & out which would suggest low mileage... but is there anything I can do to check the mileage is genuine or any tell tale signs that its been clocked?

The guy has been fantastic to be fair. The car is being Mot'd & he has admitted to a slight issue with the auto box, saying it's slipping & so he's having the oil checked & changed if it's nothing major? What do you think? I understand the auto box can be a bit problematic? But at such low mileage??

He is also going to get a compression test done... so that should highlight any engine problems right!?

Heres a few pics.....

All advise & comments welcome :D Great site by the way, congrats to all involved

I fear that changing the oil won't cure a slipping Auto box. Seat bolsters are always a good measure of a true mileage - worn on the drivers outside as the driver enters and leaves the car.

It looks like its had a respray too as there should be a black plastic strip above the back lights.

Good luck

HI SCOTTRW, send me your email please

My auto box died at about 30K, so mileage is not a guaranteed indicator.

Thanks for the advise all... WHat black strip should be there!? Is it obvious from that pic that it's not!??

thanks

..it also looks like it's not been in the country long as it's got the almost obligatory (Jap) tints on the rear screen and rear quarter lights...

...it's also missing the rubber spatts - another sign of new paint.

I must get out more...

I think they were optional - not 100% though ....

Mine has the same tints, why do the japs do this? Just like to know.....

Hmmm interesting... can tints be removed out of interest!? I'm getting a little worried by some of these respnses now. Do you think I should steer clear!?

...tints are easy to remove, just peel gradually and then clean residue with white spirits.

Dont be disheartned, we've all got lots of experience.

Fundamentally the Z's a great car, just treat it as though you are buying any car, but with the added respect that if the reason for him selling it is major (gearbox) then you are looking at big bills £1200. But if it's clean and genuine and the price is right, then why not?

...you need to tell us the asking price...

Its impossible for anyone to give real opinions from pictures, but it looks clean and tidy from what we can see. The Seat bolsters are a weak point for wearing becuase of the difficulty in getting in and out and may not nessarily indicate mileage. The same goes for the mileage digits not lining up, they can move out of perfect alignment without having been fiddled.

The Black strip beneath rear spoiler is just a sticker and many have them removed (without a respray). The Rear spats were a rare option and hardly any have them.

For same reason most people in the UK fit them too ;)

The rear quarter windows are tinted as standard , don,t try and remove this !

haha Ok Legrath you have just blown all other comments out of the water! (I don't mean in a bad way).... Ok I reckon best thing is to see what the feedback about the gearbox is, get the results from the compression test... take the buyers guide & follow it to the letter when I go & have a look. It does look tidy though & the guy (so far) has been very helpful & it semms, honest!

Its not so much how much is he asking as it may be a trade for this plus approx 500 notes from him! Hopefully you can see my dilema!??
