Securefilm window protection

Hi,

I've been speaking with bob about secure film to protect your valuables and I have virtually decided to go ahead with it.

It basically holds the glass in place when someone tries to smash your window and get in, I saw a demo a few years back and does look quite good. No tacky cheap job, bubbles etc.

Have any of you lot had experiance with this stuff (not the fitting, that would be done by securefilm people), good or bad.

Also, I don't want to completely black out the windows, but I might aswell go for a tint, but to what % I don't know, as the windows are already tinted. (Anyonw know the legal limit too?)

This is for the side and rear windows.

Z ya,

Jez.

LIGHT TRANSMISSION OF GLAZING - Summary of requirements

Motor vehicles first used between 1/6/1978 and 31/3/1985 must have windows which allow at least 70% of light to pass through. Motor vehicles first used on or after 1/4/1985 must have windscreens which allow at least 75% of light to pass through - all other windows must admit at least 70% of light.

These requirements do not apply to:

any part of the windscreen outside the ‘vision reference zone’ (as defined in C&U# Regulation 32(13));

windows through which the driver is unable, at any time, to see the road;

windows in ambulances which are behind the driver’s seat;

windows in buses, goods vehicles, locomotives or motor tractors which are behind the driver’s seat (except those which face the rear - as defined by C&U# Regulation 32(12) - or which form all or part of an exterior door); and

windows in cars which are fitted behind the driver’s seat and which bear an ‘e’ mark indicating type approval to the European glazing Directive 92/22/EC.

Tinted film

C&U# Regulation 32 does not specifically prohibit any window from having a tinted film applied, but a window with a tinted film which takes light transmittance levels below those specified above could be interpreted as contravening the Regulation.

If a vehicle's windows were excessively tinted by the use of stick-on film or a spray, there may be a contravention of C&U# Regulation 30. This requires that all glass or other materials fitted must be maintained in such a condition that it does not obscure the vision of the driver. Again, it does not specifically prohibit those windows from having a tinted film applied, but doing so could be interpreted as contravening the Regulation.

And as a safety type thing, this is from ROSPA

Strengthened Windows in Cars

Changes to the specification of glass for side windows in cars and similar vehicles which in any way increases it’s resistance to breakage (above that of the glass currently used for this purpose) is opposed. Head and brain injuries are at the present time a serious and frequent outcome of side impacts into cars. Additionally, any strengthening or change in specification of window glass is likely to make the task of the emergency services even more difficult when they seek to gain access to a vehicle interior in the event of occupants being trapped inside.

Seen this stuff tested on a Beemer well impressed. Dont know how impressed i'd be upside down in ditch with the flames licking the face....tough decision

trust me m8 from someone who knows this film is good but if someone wants in then its not gonna stop em and not only that it makes it nice and easy for the bandit to break in without getting covered in glass and making one almighty bang when he centre pops the window in the first place. get bob to fit you the tints instead looks better and stops em from gettin a good look in when its dark so is in itself a deterant anyway
