50-100K rescue operation and at the other side of the world they are still shooting harpoons at them. mad mad world.

RIP, poor beasty. I've surfed with dolphins a few times and they are incredibly emotional to be around. A whale must be amazing.

this is a shame, they are such big gentle animals, its a pity we cannot understand why they do this to themselves..

sorry to hear about that :( i thought it was going to be ok

Me too, the poor thing :(

I couldn't believe the news Friday when I heard there was a whale in the Thames near Parliament. I thought John Prescott was taking a lunchtime swim until I switched on the TV and saw it myself....

They are indeed amazing creatures, I can't believe the Japanese are so cruel to them

Richard

I have something to say............ It's better to burn out than to fade away..... :tt2:

I know what the whale was doing up there, it got lost and was looking for whale-rail-station.

On a seriouse note I love all animals ive got= 5 black cats/2 horses/24 carp/1 dog and a wife.

its a shame its gone.

 I didn't know this, such a shame, I hope the one that was spotted at Southend gets back out to sea.

Really, Really upsetting news.. Saw it live on the TV last night as a news flash... I thought it was gonna be ok too... I don't know why they had to lift it onto the bardge thingy, shorly there must have been another way to get it back into open waters, like putting some kind of open rubber cadge device around it so it would still be in the water and then almost towing it along at a safe speed??? very sad though....

ahhhhhhh,

it was already sick, and on its way to die anyway

no way a healthy deep water whale would head up a shallow fresh water river

Well i wanted the whale to be rescued to safety but i cringe when people value cute animals safety above humans.

one day they might discover why they do this? its a shame but obviuosly a consequence of nature. Every attempt to save them I have heard of when a whale beaches itself have been futile.
