I have got right into all this stripping and removing this after I thought it was the 2 pipes into the cam shaft that was leaking it may actually be the water pump which I am in the process of removing. I just need to get ridd of the bottom plastic cover thats behind the large bottom cog, anybody done this who can give the secret?? I have un done all the 8mm bolts I can see (they are very rusty) is it just a case of wiggling it or has somebody got a diagram of all the bolts fixing it in case I have missed one. Thanks

You need a Pully puller to remove the main crank pulley to get to the final bolt(s)

Oh no :o I did not know I had to do that any links to instructions as to exactly what you need to do to remove the main crank pulley

You'll need some man strength to get it off lol.

Stick an underdrive pulley on whilst your at it. You'll regret putting it all back together and not doing it.

defo bud. I've had no problems at all. Gave a noticeable improvement too. £27 is a bargain.

Just dont loose the woodruff key when you take the standard pulley off. (i remember the name now lol)

Do you have a pici of the cog this replaces?? on the Z

Lightweight main pulleys replace that huge pulley in centre of block below waterpump that you need to remove to get the Camcovers off.

Carefull of the ebay ones though. They may not be correctly balanced. You could purchase and get a machine shop to balance it, or get one from Smithy.

They have a similar affect to a lightened flywheel, although perhaps not quite as noticable, but you will notice quicker revs and response...and about 10-15hp gain. Some notice extra engine noise.

Eh Chunk!!!!!!

And make sure you dont loose the woodruff key its a small bit which aligns crank pulley

There's an echo in here here here :D

I'm sorry to say, but that has got to be the most absolutley irrisponsible, stupidest way ever to remove the bolt!!! That bolt is in there bloody tight, if it's braced it could do some damage to the engine, or if it's being held, it could take your bloody hand off! I know, my bolt took a hell of a lot of getting off! My, non-ratchet, bar knows, has it's got quite a bend in it now.

EDIT** It's a 27mm socket required as well.

Please do not judge without all the facts Dave, but you are right I would not recommend using this method if you are not a fully qualified mechanic.

If you have any trouble removing the crank pulley/bottom cover just give me a call, I will tell you the way to do it!

You are indeed right, I should have put it across more as a question as to how he had done it, rather than assume he held it or braced it. The original statement wasn't clear and could lead to someone injuring themselves, and I wouldn't want that to happen to someone on here.

sorry if i have made out it was done baddly but was not!!! i was just saying that we had problems in removing the pully and martyn had a better way of doing it !!! i never watch as i was inside the car but it came off in sec :hyper:

zen garage did a fantastic job of removing my engine and he came to my warehouse and removed it for me
