I use mine every day for work 100 mile round trip, its stock except exhaust cat back and air filter. As long as you keep to servicing intervals you should be ok. Would not recommend if you have raised boost etc on stock turbo's/internals to use as a daily drive, but all depends on opinion.

sorta planned on havin it as a weekend car but im not that rich so was beggining to think it mite have been impractical but things are looking up, just got my lowest quote from adrian flux too, just need rid of my other car now. Anyone??? lol

Mine's always a weekend/summer car. Don't see the point on putting wear and tear on it on a boring commute to work and winter driving. Have a company car, but before I had that, I just had a £200 Cavalier that did the job.

I've use my NA, SWB manual as a daily driver for the last year and a half and it's never let me down. Had to replace a radiator and battery which cost less than £200 for both (also did the starter motor as a precaution) and then odd's and sods at MOT time.(brake pipes, headlight alignment)

It's kept on the drive, always starts on the button in all weathers, and gives me 23mpg.

Insurnace on a classic policy is less than £340 fully comp

Go and test drive as many as you can to get a feel for them.

I bought mine with the intention of using it at weekends only. But since end of Oct 05 when I got it, mileage has gone from 74k to 79k and that's not using it exclusively. Starts every time even during the cold Xmas weather, only problem I've has is the water pump failing and one of the coolant hoses dropping some coolant as it wasn't attached properly by whoever had worked on it previously.

Mine's going to be kept as standard as possible with only the essential mods that improve day to day driving.

The only thing that's scary is working out how much I've spent on fuel :(

unfortunatly too young for classic insurance but i got that sorted anyway i just wouldnt like to put the everyday wear and tear on a car like that, ive got a garage space for it and plan to keep it there and get another car even though i live 5 miles from work. Just wanted to know what everyone else was doin thanks for the replies!!

before you go and buy one look in the halp and advice area and there are loads of advice about buying a Z

Hi chunko, i dont know what insurance quote you got, but if you put your dad (hes got a clean license) as the second driver you can save some money. Im 21 and it saved me £300. My insurance is with Admiral, the only company that would insure me out of about 30 because of the modifications.

Over Christmas i did use my car everyday and the only problems ive had is the fan & powersteering belts breaking.

If you keep it stock you can have mpg in the high 20's.

Fit a boost controller and it will drop below 20 for sure.

I use mine as a daily drive for 2 years, and it cost me about 2k a year in sevicing and repairs.

Now its a 2nd car those cost have come right down.

Main things to check for is big vibrations, smokey exhausts, and mainly water leaks, take the car for a good run then turn it off and look over it for 5 to 10 mins, these cars are 15 years old and most of the water pipes are on their last legs, replacing them is not so much expensive as time consuming and will cost in labour time if doe in a garage.

If its an auto import check its had an autobox cooler fitted, if not the box will cook pretty quick at highish speeds.

Best bet is get someone off here to have a look at it with you, or get the reg of any you like or post pics on here and see if you can dig up any history on it, theres alot of knowledge floating around on here.

I do about 150 miles a week in mine SWB TT. As its a beauty of a V6 engine it runs very smooth in top form and you can pick up any slight roughness in the engine. And probably the ECU unit will flag it and light up the yellow 'Check' light on the 2nd turn of ignition before starting the engine.

I so love the ZX's engine. Its purrs nicely cruising, drop a gear and pump the throttle and BOOM! call it bhp, torque or whatever but you get smooth big buildup of grunt that makes you go very fast muahahaha. 4 cylinder engines should stay in tractors :hyper:

I dont know if that would help because they class living here as "high risk" you would think i lived in iraq or somethin. Thanks for all this i would rather ask a stupid question now than have to pay for it later in repair bills lol!!

Hi Chunko,

I lived in Newtownards, Co Down for 2 years in the ol '90's. Where abouts are you?

I would prob get an insurance quote for the car 1st, it will be a group 18. let us know how much it costs.

Most of the guys here wont know just how steep the inurance is over in NI......its bloody scarey. When I was there '94-'96 TPFT on a Vauxhall Belmont 1300, clean license, age 30ish etc was over £700. My m8 tried to insure a volvo 740 GL estate, aged 20.....quote was over 2 grand!!

I hope its eased off a bit :hyper:

it hasnt really last year i paid two grand for a honda accord coupe 2.0 group 15. http://reallymeansounds.com/forum/showthread.php?t=31022 ,ive got my lowest quote so im stickin to that. Im in portadown by the way!!
