175mph+ 3.6 litre garret turbos fast as fook but its still a carlton.

i personally like them but beware plenty of replicas about.

i think they only came in green and very very rare in right hand drive.

I reckon you would struggle to find one with good body work and if you did it would be some ones pride and joy and not for sale.

Also correct me if I'm wrong but i'm sure they were down for 4.7s to 60?

i think you might be right

Reminds me of the journey to Billing 2002 think it was,old post somewhere but had a cracking race with one, fast but not fast enough :D there was another colour,Pink belongs to Shirley Bassey, she still got it and its only done 2000 mles i believe, was a one off special, must of cost a bit even in them days.

Tony

I reckon though it would be dearer than a Z to maintain going on prices when I had an Elise.

Had one of the early ones from new, stunning car but over £18k worth of warranty work in three years.

I looked into buying one but after talking to several people about just how fast a clutch can go and coil packs and H.T. leads and water circ pump siezing and heat sheild for it not big enough and only one guy in the country left who knows how to fix the million niggly problems, then i saw one thrashed by a cossie i changed my mind !!!!

I love the black Lotus Carltons but it has a lotus engine so probably not robust. I liked the Carlton 3000 GSI's but all of them are now wrecks.

According to a book i have there wasnt a lot made. and they are pretty rare?

I quit like them. But wouldnt wish to own one.

All Lotus Carltons were Imperial Green, no black ones.

Are you sure Phil? There was a black one at Elvington 2 years ago

Ah my pick of a Lotus Carlton was in my 'Automobile' yearly car guide from the eighties that had black and white photos. Duhhh!

I tried to order mine in a different colour and was told in no uncertain terms that there was no chance so unless someone has had the car resprayed then only green.

I have a copy from the factory of all the build no,s for both the Carlton and Omega versions and have just checked and everyone is listed as imperial green apart from the first test mule which was white.

LOL how did it compare to the TVR power wise?

very impressive for such a big car mine went back to the factory after six months to have all the restrictions removed and new ecu etc ended up at 503bhp and shed loads of torque. First time out with car after the upgrade and I managed to totally twist the driveshafts. When the car was tested at Bruntigthorpe it managed a 4.6 0-60 and that was with a second gear start to try and prevent the shafts from snapping.

Would be nice to compare one with the Z
