IMO the most sensible thing I have read on this thread is get the police off their arse and let them find the criminals, not use a bloody computer to track everyone and monitor innocent peoples every move. God knows how much this computer system will cost but just put an intelligent person in charge of the police force and give him the money.

...get the police off their arse and let them find the criminals

The police should not have to find criminals, everyone out there should do there bit a prevent crime. Prevention is far better than detection.

Also, how many camera's are there, hundreds of thousands, maybe more. You are viewed by one several times a day, have you been out, dropped some rubbish? Probably but did you get prosecuted for littering....NO! Probably be the same for speeding and other offences that the system COULD identify.

I still think some people are paranoid and believe that they always being watched and scrutinised. Again if this was the case you would all no doubt be in receipt of £80 disorder penalties for swearing at someone in public!

I personally don't care, if you aren't doing anything wrong you will not get any problems. They can introduce identity cards and I won't lose any sleep, none of these things take away your identity. They are designed to make it harder for the "criminals" and result in a safer country for the law abiders. People need to stop being paranoid.

Sorry mate but thats total crap. If you are doing nothing wrong then why should you be investigated.

Not at all, I know I am already being filmed by CCTV a lot of the time and would just like to stop it happening anymore than it is. I was born a free man (baby/hatched/whatever), would love to die one to.

Who is being investigated? That's my point you are not.

What annoys me is the government will pay wardens to fine normal decent people in the street for dropping a sweet wrapper or if you dont declare your motorbike SORN in winter their computers automatically send you a fine.

But try ringing the police cos some chavs are kicking your fence in or someone has trashed your £10,000 car, you will be lucky if they send someone out the same night.

can you see the relevance here, one of these cases generates them money, the other costs them money, it stinks.

The normal working man is an easy target you can be fined easily and if you dont pay they will use baliffs to kick your door in and take it, what a moneyspinner eh? like taking candy from a baby and its good for the crime figures too.

But if your a scum chav kid causing havoc at night and your parents are just as bad well thats a lot harder to do anything about isnt it, so lets just ignore that cos they cant pay the fines anyway.

I can see where you are coming from but I also feel the police are greatly under resourced and tragically can't deal with every call as efficiently as the tax paying public deserve.

This system is being implemented to take the place of the scrutinising you're talking about, when they successfully integrate all the databases with the cameras then the whole system becomes automated and the ridiculous volumes of fines would not be a problem.

Although I will concede that if every single person caught with the new system contested their fine then there would be a very big problem.

have to agree mostly with what Yampiedog says

doesn't bother me in the slightest the amount of cctv cameras that are appearing, in fact how many of you purposely park in car parks/road where it is covered by camera? how many of you when people say about nuisance neighbours say "get video evidence" or are chuffed when some of these chavs are caught on camera on all the proggs' we all watch? and it leads to them being evicted,

i have cameras protecting front and back of my house, any difference?

we have people complaining about chavs and druggies, so why not let them do EVERYTHING possible to catch the scum??

ive also been grateful the stretch of motorway where my wife broke down was covered, as police were there in minutes

yes it will be used for "fine" catching but no tax no mot/insurance then you take your chances, not sure about the arguement about being a day or two overdue, as it would probably take a week or so to issue the summons, so hopefully by that time you would be covered and common sense SHOULD be used in those cases, and if your still not covered then that arguement has gone

i have to agree with paulg if they mean MORE cuts to police then NOOOOOOO

if anything there should be more to enforce the evidence/charges against the scum, so old people can once again feel safe, or your not frightened to let your kids out

how many of you run your own business? and use cctv, i cant wait for the day they invent a cctv with built in laser guided taser :nelson:

Its maybe moving a little off the original subject and straying into the philosophical, but.....

Would you like to live a place with no crime. where you could leave you car unlocked, with the keys in the ignition, and know that it would not go missing. What if the price to pay was a CCTV camera on every street corner?

Thats rubbish its a matter of principal, i have the right to go about my business without being monitored, filmed or photographed. This will not effect the scum bags for 2 reasons. firstly people like that wont even have the id cards or register cars in their own names and secondly the law is too soft to do anything with them if they are caught.

The government will NEVER do anything just for our benefit, any changes will always generate them more income and where will that come from? yeah the normal working guy who goes 5mph over the speed limit or lets his road tax get one day out of date.

agreed ;)

That sounds great but how about never being able to break the speed limit? I mean, we all drive fast from time to time, that's why we drive Z's.

Macca's fines alone would pay off the national dept if that system was currently in place :D
