Hi people,

Tried to start the Z up yesterday but battery seemed flat, so I got the jump leads etc etc and it started up straight away. I let it run for a few minutes and then decided to take it for a run.

When I move forward and through the gears the Hicas & ABS light flash now and again and as you pick up speed it started jumping like a miss fire or fuel problem, so I decided to turn around and not risk further damage but I have no idea what has happened to it, seemed fine the week before, any ideas at all or have I fried the ECU but jumping it with the leads?.

Thanks in advance

You may have fried it, sorry. I had an ECU go on me, the ignition was staying live when you turned the key off so you couldn't turn the car off! The only thing I could attribute it to was jump starting it about a week earlier.

Try and borrow another ECU and try that.

I thought as much, I shall try and get another or get it checked out for faults elsewhere.

Thanks though.

not wanting to tempt fait then, but any advise should any of us ever be in the situation you would need to jump the car? Any way around frying the ecu? or starting ti, mines an auto so jump starting wouldnt be an option...?

it would be pretty rare to fry the ecu like that - not saying it can't happen, but thousands of people have jumped zeds before without problems - me included more times than I care to remember!! :headvswal :headvswal

as to the running problems - try disconnecting and reconnecting your ECU - making sure your get the socket in square... the connector's notorious for making a poor connection.

Do an ecu diagnostic before you go and buy another ecu. I agree with Rich, think you'd have to be very unlucky to fry your ecu by jump starting it and I've jump started my Z many a time over the years.

Well I feel alot better that it might not be a fried ECU. I did find it unlikely to be the cause but these things do happen, so I'll take the advice of disconnecting and connecting first and then run a diagnostic check on it.

Thanks guys

If your battery is very low, then im quite sure, you would have the same or simular sypmtoms mate

could be just not enough power in the battery maybe?

try charging it for a few hours, and see if it improves

I suppose its worth a shot, I did let it idle 20 minutes before I tried to drive it, and at standstill it was running smoothly, but when I drove it, the jumping started and the lights started flashing up.
