hello people!

 

im having a bit of a dilema right now in the car front.

i currently drive a mitsi fto but due to the stupidly high insurance im facing next year (£1247 im 23 and have 4ncb! fully comp) im thinking of finally turning the page to the 300zx.

ive been looking at them on eaby n auto trader and pestering the local import shop in birmingham about them but theres just somethings i need to know i hope you lot can tell me.

 

first of.. the biggie... fuel, in the NA whats it like in comparison to the fto. i get about 160miles to 20£ of optimax. (im to scared to fill the tank up. that and more weight to move means more fuel to burn)

 

and lastly would i be silly not to get the turbo? what kinda fueling is that like?

 

i ask because i do city driving. the insurance doesnt bother me at 640£ for the 3.0 auto t-top.

 

if you convince me enough i might convert to the dark side.

i was looking through the for sale section at 4am this morning lol. problem is i dont have the 4500 and im sure if i ebay it or auto trade my car it will go for less then 4500... im going to put it on fleabay with a reserve, its a shame to see it go but hey, 300zx becons now, i think i have the turbo power bug.

fuel consumption can be scary on a turbo. the best I've had on a full 72ltr tankful (86.9p/l super) is 310 miles where the needle was buried deep in the red. This was done on mostly motorway driving. Around town, anything approaching 240miles is a bonus.

 

as for insurance, I'd have thought a turbo zed would have a higher insurance groupling than an FTO.

oh yea.. uk spec turbo's... how can i tell one from a import because import 300s are 1100 insurance yet the uk specs are 657£ LOL

logbook would state when car was manufactured and 1st registered. If they very different then it's most likely an import. Square rear licence plate and no foglights on rear bumper also means UK spec although this could have been swapped over obvously. You could also check the VIN no with Nissan.

 

I found insurance to be cheaper when I moved from an import NA car to a UK TT.

I pay £800 unlimited milage with fixed replacement valuation of £18k and all mods declared on my UK car.

DITTO............Sorry to put a dampner on things matey but they love the juice.

so does a tuned fto. fuel aint a worry really i was just interested in what itslike to run compaired with the 23mpg i get out of mine doesnt seem that far off but the 300 i save on insureance will go to fuel no doubt. lol.

yea i know but im mates with the brother who owns premier imports so i can get a goodun, i had them import the fto i wanted i saw on an auction site. they dont normally do that lol.

 

ac1 has a 300 going cheap due to the overheating, any ideas how much it would cost in parts? i could do the rest considering its not involving anything more then the diy mans garage tools lol.

i have a jap spec ,swb, pearl black ,na,targa, manual. which i wouldn't swap for anything!

well faster or not, i think uk spec will suit me. cant have everything.

 

whats the engine differances from euro to jap then? i can only think its the ecu program? once thats chipped then power gains are more then that of jap spec?

 

anyhow im going to the alps for some skiing for a week, see you all soon take care and when i get back the 300 hunt begins.

get the TT. its miles faster and not noticeably more expensive on the fuel. fuel varies but the best i've had was 18mpg. worst about 5mpg (but it was moving quite quickly and on 1.3bar boost most of the time). if it breaks it will cost the earth and the way they arrange the engine bay defies logic and anyone with decent sized fingers. most jobs arent for the home mechanic and a lot are engine out only. sometimes the T-tops seals leak but these arent hard or expensive to fix. thats the bad sides. on the good side, you'll have enough power to blast most things on the road, they like sideways action and dont protest too much, the back seats are for your packed lunch, decent sized boot but shallow (but the back seats fold and they're useless anyway).

the climate control is ice cold in the summer and stops steaming up in the winter well.

the other point is how tuneable they are. basic mods (filter, chip, exhaust) will usually see them on 350-400bhp depending on how mad you go with boost. then they spin the wheels in third without clutch and are huge fun. they also drive really nice. try one. you'll love it.

My 300 tt Zed returns better mpg than my old Skyline Gts25t either on longs runs or round town

hey everyone im back from the alps now!

 

im going to have a look at an electric blue n/a t-top tomorrow, the guys going to let me have it for a day (good mate of mine hehehe...to trusting!)

so i can see how it gets on with the work run and stuffs.

 

i worked out that a 60ltr fto tank of optimax gets me 310 miles on a very very very granny drive so its about the same i guess for the both of em.

 

i wont be doing many fuel killing miles this year because i hope to spend most of it hurling myself down a snowy mountain at silly speeds.

My average fuel consumption (UK TT auto, pretty stock) is around 220-230 miles per 60-65 litres. On a long m-way run at 90-100mph I have seen 280 miles from the same volume of fuel.

just figured something...

60ltrs gets me 447 kilometers average like thats 275.90 thats miles... thats less then a 300.....DAMMIT! ... weres my nearest 300zx dealer!
