Wondered if anyone can help

When I accelerate shall we say a bit harder than usual the revs climb upwards (after 300rpm) yet the road acceleration doesn't match it.

It's as if the tyres at the front are losing traction.

Could this be it or could it be something else - any advice will be greatly appreciated

Sorry I obviously meant 3000rpm ooops

Slipping clutch usually most noticeable in 4th/5th gear, from low revs put the boot into it, watch the revs climb whilst the car goes nowhere.

3rd gear upwards Dazsw - it's a manual

What are the possible causes - and more importantly the cost

These cars are rear wheel drive so, you meant, losing traction from the rear tyres

Firstly, try adjusting the clutch pedal

Second, bleed the system

Thirdly, and if the above have no effect, new clutch

No I did get it correct Paul (lol) it's as if when accelerating the front lifts up a bit under the force and the front tyres lift a bit off the road

Any idea where I can find some info on adjusting the clutch pedal

Probably does need a fluid change was going to do that at the end of the month.

How much for a new clutch then

change the fluid, but it sounds like a worn clutch

my clutch worked out thusly

~325quid for an RPS clutch from smithy (very good clutch)

~400quid for a flywheel from chris at greddy (flywheel made by AASCO who make stuff for porsche race teams)

~300 quid labour to fit.

you probably won't need a new flywheel and if you do you can go OEM which will always be cheaper, its worth talking to the traders on here about what they will do you and for how much

Mike

slightly off-topic (and apologies to andyl) but did you notice much difference with the lightened flywheel???

Cheers

Phil

I am presuming that if the fluid needed changing (low) this would have the same affect ?? How many miles would it take for a clutch to wear as mine has only done 44000

I don't really want to spend a massive amount as I want to sell it at the end of the month

 £300 labour fook should be a lot less than that mike

yuh depends where you go though and how they charge, it cost a lot more becuase it was done on a timed basis which I don't usually go for,

i noticed a change with the flywheel, it wasn't massive but it made the car smoother.

£150 max but then i guess you live london area, they dont mind to charge around there for most things

So guys if my problem is the clutch - should it be doing this after only 44000 miles

i think the book says approx 55-60k but not being funny being an import the mileage may have been altered,or if you have had performance/boost increase it WILL shorten the life of the clutch

Should have given us a shout Mike, would have given you a much better price :)
