Smoking on boost.

Hi there, not sure if I have a problem or not. From cold, I always let the engine warm up before I boot it. The first 10 minutes or so after the engine's warmed up if the boost kicks in theres a small haze of greyish smoke in the exhaust gases... once i've been driving for over 10 mins or so & its done this a couple of times it stops. I assume a litle oil is leaking past oil seals overnight & gets burnt off in this initial smoking, which doesnt then happen again til its been stood. Or is there something worse going on? For information, the oil is semi-synthetic with grade exactly as reccomended in the handbook. Any ideas would be great thanks... :duffer:

PCV valves could be clogged. They just drip oil into the inlet and when first boosting, it just gets blown out the back. Mine does the same and mine needs new valves and hoses.

valve stem oil seals will also cause exactly the same problem, although once they have warmed up and expanded slightly this usually disapears as per your explanation

my smoke is far worse, it dosnt smoke at all untell im sat stationery at traffic lights say for a couple of mins so i touch the gas to 2000 rpm dont do it i been told my left bank turbos oil seal gone ouch!!!!!

sounds about right either your PCV's although tbh i would say more than lightly your rear turbo seal failing

Had guessed it might be this... had it on other cars... is this a major job? (Probably a silly question... its a Z :rolleyes: )

 

If i've got the head etc has gotta come off then might as well do cambelts etc at same time?

Heads have to come off to do the seals properly which will mean you will have no choice but to replace the cam belt and tensioner and head gaskets etc

OK TWO NEW TUBS AND PCV's and labour ,No patic rush how much and what about diffrent tubs . I have hks valve timmer fitted bean de cated did know how to use instrutions in jap im proberly the one that fxxk it up in the fist plase. :cry: :cry: :cry:
