Also a certain Gio from here appeared on a Z-car special with Jezza Clarkson. His 300zx was not performing to its best yet is still showed which is the quickest Z-car in a straight line, stuffing the 350z again. :rofl:

For your info Z-club magazine has done a feature on both cars. The white one in Top Gear is completely stock, whilst Gio's just has a different exhaust - Gio is well known here as "Captain Stock".

 

Both cars are known to us so your claim that "no one knows if these cars are modified" is complete crap.

 

Also the article on the white zx that beat the 350z explained how they did several runs, swapping drivers etc and the result was still the same each time.

Whatever anyone thinks or says i believe i.m.o. the 350z was built to keep the emmision and safety people happy there are some awsome 350zeds out there single turbo, twin tubo, and supercharged and the outpace the 300zx BUT, the 350zeds have been modified to make them a car they should have been off the production line. With all the talk about how the old m3 beemers and the new ones are totally different beasts now and the power output of them going through the roof Nissan should be making a more powerful cheaper to run better handling 300 zed follow on ........... they havent got the power right sorry it really wouldnt have taken much to give it the same 0-60 as a 300tt and the same bhp. they chose not to so again i.m.o. it is an inferior car thats my 2 cents worth !!

Yeh, about 10-15hp on an otherwise stock engine..and then take into account that its had 15 years worth of wear and tear. Plus, at the time of the tests Gio had a boost leak and it was his first ever attempty at a "drag" race.. And since fixing the leak it has been dynoed at 284bhp fly.

 

...and thats not the only test...there have been others.

 

It has been proven time and time again that the 300zx is faster and anyone that has driven both will tell you that while the 350z is quick it just does'nt pull like the 300zx does. There is not a huge difference in performance between a 350z and a Stock TT however.

 

Im not critisicing the 350z, just stating it how it is in regards to performance.

I agree, but we were comparing performance. Most of the reasons for people not disliking the 350z (but many of us do like them) has nothing to do with the performance drop from the newer car. Other reasons can include looks, build quality....but a lot of it is defensive when those not in the know instantly presume its a better car, just becuase its newer. Despite it being aimed at a lower market, and with a cheaper new price tag than the 300zx.

Yes, it beat the driver in that 350z twice. But it doesn't demonstrate which of the 2 cars are quicker, there are too many holes in that Top Gear "test". No one can prove whether the cars were making as much power as they should do. No one can prove it a gear was missed, or if they bogged on the launch. It makes a difference where in adds power to a car is ARGUABLY JUST AS QUICK as a 300 zx WITH JUST 280 HP, think what the disparity of results would be with less weight and more horsepower and torque.

The 350z driver in that test was clarkson himself...and in the other test you can clearly see the 300zx bog off the line before catching up.

 

Could go on all night with stats here and there. No doubt the 350z is 0.4 secs quicker 60-100 due to the 6-speed box,.......40-80, 50-90,100-150..etc could give completely different results.

 

But I agree, at the end of the day the performance difference is minimal. The 350z is a decent modern sports car.

I want a 350Z. But in the process I wont part with my 300ZX. I want one because I think they are a lovely looking car. The performance wasn't an issue with me when I decided just the looks and the name. OK many will disagree with me but HEY! personal choice is exactly that and if I wanted a skoda "felacio" (I would be a sucker) but it would still be my choice. As for arguing on a 300zx site that the 350z is a better then thats tantamount to taking the pi55. :nono:

I absolutely agree with you there, the new Skyline is great, I have to have one :D

 

The 300z is quicker than the 350z period! Reason being that the turbo gives the engine far more torque throughout the rev range thus giving better acceleration. The power output may be the same at 280bhp but that's as far as it goes.

I think the 350z is SH1T and they should all be scrapped and Anh should just eat my dirty lost clubbin' shoe to say sorry for being a twat. :D

Wrong. Its an evolved 240z. The 350z was never designed to be in the same league at the 300zx, its a lesser car aimed at a lower and cheaper market than the 300zx was. A Budget Porsche(Boxter!) rival, rather than high-end porsche rival.
