Ever faithful zed on the blink AGAIN!!!

Hey guys,

Hope you all had a very merry xmas and a happy new year. Hope fully 2006 will bring us all a wallet pain free motoring experience!! Not me - shes on the blink already!!

Dunno how many of you have been follwing this one but i've had my NA popping on the left bank for about a YEAR!! Recently we discovered an error code from the ecu pointing at the ptu - replaced it..but now I've got popping ALL the time not justwhen she's cold as she was before and a complete lack of power - foot on the floor and theres hardly any reaction at all from her. And to add to it, now i don't just have a lumpy engine i have a nasty little annoying fookin tappin at the back of the left bank - cylinder one i think.

Now I am completely lost. I've bought Nissan Datascan and made logs of several journeys....what i've noticed is that when she's cold and running like a power mower with half the engine missing, the left o2 sensor is reading really really low and the right one is sort of normal. When shes warm runnin at 70 in fifth the left o2 sensor is at the top of the scale while the right is only three quarters of the way up. Plus i got stuttering when leaving a junction...she splutters tries to stall then very quickly revs up and i have to back off or i'l ice skate into a wall!!

Does anyone have the slightest idea whats goin on with this damn thing cos i just wanna firebomb it, i'm gettin so fed up with prob after prob. Oh how much fuel would u say it should use to do a 45 mile trip (NA remember) on motorways? Cos she's using about quarter of a tank each way to work. But when shes just millin about here shes gettin through qurater of a tank in about 12 miles.

I've defo got a problem but i think i need advice from someone experienced with NA's cos i've given up now. Tax has run out so she's staying on the drive til this is sorted.

Any help, PLEEEEEEEEEEEEEASE send it in this direction!!!

All the best for 2006 everyone.

Rich

I've cleaned out every single one of them mate til they were shining....no reaction. The only thing is all the plugs have been smashes to bits by some noob in the past so i've had to modify/repair them to get them to clip back and be held in but i can GUARANTEE there is no connection problem and they are all seated correctly.

How would i check if they were knackered?

Plus i don't even know if y tps is alive or dead and this bloody poppin is drving me buts. Its like low pressure on one cylinder to the point shes not firing at all.

My advice would have to be take it to a Z specialist, get them to run Conzult and see what that throws out, if changing the PTU made it worse was it replaced with a second hand unit or series 2 unit? posssibly a fault in the wiring to the PTU as changing it made it worse, is the TPS set correctly, again the best way to do this is with a Conzult. Is the MAF working?? is there anyone near you that would be willing to swap bits over to find the problem? but again the stress free way to get the car running properly is take it to someone and pay them.

Have you spoke to Ryan at ZTECH, if I was you I would call him and book it in. You will find Ryan in the traders section.

Mine was exactly the same mate. Stutters when cold, erratic idle, clicking at rear drivers side cylinder, sometimes it would run then it would only run on five cyl. Then a bit later loads of smoke out of driver side exhaust. Dont want to upset you but took it ot a garage and it was a cracked cylinder, if yours checks out to be this then its either an expensive rebuild or a new engine.

Could be wrong tho' as I am only guessing, but same symptoms as mine.

Thank you guys, it means a lot that all of you understand and wanna help...i could get burned off by a robin reliant at this point :(

right i'll try to locate ryan on the traders forum....what i could really do with is someone who has conzult and knows how to adjust the car from the readings!!

I don't wanna have to drive it in this state i could be destroying it :(

But thank you again and if any of you guys do have conzult please come take a look.

Im sure someone in your area has conzult and the knowledge to use it properly that would be willing to come round and see whats happening, I know I have done it for a few in my area, why not start a thread up asking for someone nearby with a conzult to come round, a bribe of tea and biscuits is all it takes for me.

Just spoke to Ryan @ Ztech and he said that you're right on the TT's its a common problem due to too much air due to the plenum design but on the NA's the problem really doesn't exist, however its not to say i don't have a worn engine. We'll have to see. Next job - compression test.

I'll keep you updtaed as usual!!! hehehe

Pray for me guys...cos if it s knackered cylinder shes havin a new engine. :headvswal

hahah i'll try that - maybe a mince pie to huh!!! :D

At revs of over 2k both o2 sensor reading should be moving in a continous sweep up and down the range, less than once a second constantly.

If the o2 sensor readings are staitonary or slow moving then they are faulty, and it will be overfuelling to compensate as a safety measure.

When was the timingbelt replaced ?

sounds like it could have slipped a few teeth on one of the LH camshaft pulleys.

Best is to do a compression or leakdown test to verify.

Yeah i think its my only option now to do this compression test feel like pulling whats left of my hair out now!

I'm gonna have the timing belt checked out it was done apparently a year ago, which would equate to about 12,000 so i think she's due a change anyway.

Lets hope i find some good news instead of some more bad eh.

Hey up mate,

No the o2 sensors go crackers like u described up until i'm holdiong a steady speed on the motorway - then they settle lh at the top of the scale and rh three quarters of the way up.

Any ideas?
