When I started my car tonight to come home after firing up OK, the 'Power' light flashed on/off for a few seconds.

Is it trying to make contact to tell me something?

Actually craig I figured out what the Z was trying to tell me. When the 'Power' light flashes it means; "Look mate, get off your fat lardy arse and get up to Nico's gaff and get that bloody chip in so I can eat Ferrarri's' It must be be code 26 on the ECU diagnostics!!!

Simojn ;-)

Simon,

The power light will have flashed because you blipped the accelerator. The gearbox will go into power mode if you hit the accelerator very fast and it just thought you wanted to give it some welly !

Nothing wrong.

Dave

Dave, no it wasn't that, I was stationary at the time and had just fired it up. I did not have my foot on the accelerator. I know it kicks in on kick-down but this was a rhythmic pulse on fire up. I has not done it since yesterday. It's had a good thraping down to Newbury and all was well.

Must have been a hickup. These things happen.

Simon

Simon,

if you dont hurry on up to Nico's and get your ECU, then i may have to try and claim it under some obscure law that i should be able to dig up on the net somewhere :-)

Craig.

(who now knows why his Z has no Power light...)

Hehe, the Bride Nico with Lots of Beer and Money Law, lol. If only :o)

Unfortuantly, You'll need to chop an idiot box ;o)j/k into yours Craig to get it to work props.

I've had a dry run on installation with a colour copy of the TTZD printout from my new colour printer. (How sad am i? )It's a piece of piss should do it easy. All my pipes are like new (On the car that is!) so looks good.

I've been servicing my Bike so I've had quite a night of tinkering already, I'm itching to sort the Z. I'm all spannered up and ready to go!

Have you done any electrical adjustments recently? This sounds exctly like the auto diagnostic run when it has been reset. I've seen it many times after adjusting the TPS. If they where all short flashes (about 15 I think) then your fine - if any stay on longer then the number of the flash IE 1-15 is the error code number - I think I have the codes at home as to what they mean if it does...

Bilky.

Bilky, yes it did it again this morning, about 5 flashes on the POWER light. It must be a code, anyone got the manual and let me know what it means?

I would like to know before the new ECU goes in.

Thanks

Simon

Bilky, you sussed our the power flash coddes for me yet?

It did it again this afternoon. This is with the new ECU so something must still be up.

Any ideas anyone? I'm lost on this one!

Simon

What is the power light?

Do you mean the engine check light on the dash?

That light should off off when you start the engine or stay on if the ecu is buggered, and do nothing else unless in diag mode?

If it's flashing 5 times, twice, then purhaps the ecu is somehow in diag mode. (55 means all okay). The diag screw on the ecu should be left in a counterclockwise state.

Jez, the Power light comes on when in sport mode on automatics - you won't have one.

Maybe it's a dodgy connection in the power switch. I've noticed a couple of times on mine that the power switch made no difference. Flicking the switch backwards and forwards a few times seemed to cure the problem.

On a different nore, what about one of these for a weekend runabout? www.shithotfast.com

The owner pulled into the work car park in front of me today. He has that url on a sticker above the rear number plate! :-)

well, basically. I need that car.

Yup, happened again, the light blinks 13 times once the car is fired up. Does anyone have an auto user manaual? Please look this up.

All seems well, still goes like stink but it must be trying to tell me something. Maybe it wants more power?

Simon (Shouls I ask the Yanks?)

Does what help?

Simon

This thread is getting so long I had to read the manual and post what is says...

If the light flickers for 10 seconds there is an A/T error to read. There are so many sensors, pressure, temps etc that the consult is best... but with out it it says to do this....

Self-Diag procedure...

Start engine & warm up to normal engine operating temp.

Turn engine off.

Set overdrive switch on.

Move selector to P

Turn ignition on (do not start engine)

Does A/T check lamp come on for 2 seconds?

No> Bulb/Harness prob. (Loads of info for this)

Yes>.... read on

Turn ignition off.

Move selector to D.

Set overdrive to OFF.

Turn ignition on (do not start engine) and wait for more than 2 seconds.

Move selector to "2" range.

Set overdrive ON.

Move selector to "1" range.

Set overdrive "OFF"

Depress accelerator pedal fully and release.

Stand on your head and juggle (just kidding, but it's getting that way).

Check A/T lamp...

The lamp will flash 10 times. (I think the first flash is long and is the start signal, do not count this)

Remember which flash is the longest, that is your error code.

Codes:

All flashes same length : no error

1: Revolution sensor short-circuited or disconnected

2:Speed sensor short-circuited or disconnected

3:Throttle sensor short-circuited or disconnected

4: Shift solenoid A short-circuited or disconnected

5: Shift solenoid B short-circuited or disconnected

6: Overrun clutch solenoid short-circuited or disconnected

7: Lock-up solenoid short-circuited or disconnected

8: Fuild temp sensor disconnected ot A/T control unit power source is damaged

9: Engine revolution signal circuit short-circuited or disconnected

10: Line pressure solenoid short-circuited or disconnected

On/Off flicker, even spaced :

* Battery is low or has been disconnected for a long time

* Battery connected conversely (re-connect the control unit connectors correctly)

No light:

Inhibitor switch, overdrive siwtch, kickdown switch or idle switch circuit is disconnected or A/T control unit is damaged.

11: Flashes 11 times. Learn to count correctly!

Once the error has been located there are loads of pages saying what to do...

Have fun...
