IS THIS BAD? IS IT GONNA COST LOADS?

While I was putting petrol into my car (for the 3rd time this week biggrin.gif) I noticed some rust on the neck of the petrol tank. Its about 1/2 inch in from the opening where you put your cap on. I pressed lightly against the rust and it went through. The hole is only a couple of millimetres wide.

What can I do?

Is there a chance that the tank inside is rusty?

HELP!!!

Stuart.

Someone else had the same problem, could have been Andy Duff. I think a large chunk of the filler neck has rusted away and he had to replace it. Requires taking the tank out I think. believe he noticed it because petrol was sloshing around on trackdays and leaking out the hole !

This was mine once I had removed it frown.gif Best thing to do is remove the rear wheel arch liner that hides the filler neck. You can then judge the amount of rust. To be honest though this does need replacing. I got mine from Mike @ MJP http://www.lightman.co.uk/mjp . The cost wasn't too bad to be honest.

When you come to fit it, if you give me a shout I'll help you with it - it really is a two man job and experience of doing it before DEFFINATELY helps wink.gif

Let me know wink.gif AND DON'T WORRY wink.gif

CheerZ Andy.

Just had another look. Its just a small hole on the left as you look at it. I got a screwdriver and has a good poke all around it, and it seem solid enough. Just a little sulphur on it I think.

Mmm one point to bear in mind is the little drain hole that should be kept clear inside the petrol flap area a the base this can lead to water collection and rust INSIDE the flap area, however the pipe filler below needs to be kept clear of dirt etc or the drain hole keeps it wet!! doh!! no winning some times.

...I've got a spare filler neck - as per the picture but in one piece and in good condition. Let me know if you need one - got a tank too.
