I've found the BP ultimate to be ok too but it seems to be a few pence per litre more expensive around my area. Has anyone here tried the Esso high octane fuel? It seems really cheap compared to the other "Premium" fuels around... i assume theres a reason for that.

depends on how skint i am, one good thing owning a uk car they are desinged to run on 95 octane, but i find bp ultimate and optimax are both good

V- POWER by shell over here in Germany. 100 RON. If uk, Optimax is the way to go bud!!

I had my jap z since July and use normal unleaded to save dosh, but the comment about uk spec and 95 ron is concerning. Does anyone think normal unleaded could be a problem (other than performance)?

Thanks

David

Always use Optimax but if not available use Esso Super Plus or BP Ultimate... I've dynoed my car a couple of times using Esso Super Plus and then with Optimax... Worth 12.3Bhp With Optimax...

it's a no brainer, the higher the octane the better = better det resistance =better for ya engine = better go (power)

tesco 99 is the best around from a pump anyware that i know of including the V- POWER by shell they sell in germany which will soon be over here too (rip off price as usual from shell), let me stress tesco 99 is 99 OCTANE not 99 ron (look on the pump sticker next time ;) ) 99 octane is about 103-104 ron so that has the v power beaten easy and it's much cheaper, so far it's by far the best! any turbo car should crave this stuff ;)

The other benefit to using a higher octane fuel, is better fuel economy. Its not nessairly as cost effective to use a cheaper lower octane fuel.

Wishfull thinking, but Nope, it is 99 Ron ! Ron is a measurement of Octane used in Europe. I guess the confusion is over the MoN Octane rating that the U.S use, which needs to be converted to RoN to get the correct Octane rating over here.

But yes, it is the highest octane rating fuel in the UK.

BTW - there have been reports of a major shortage of Optimax in the uk over the past few days. Shell has this to say in reply :

Dear Sir or Madam,

Thank you for your recent e-mail regarding Optimax supplies.

Following the recent incident at the Hemel Hempstead Oil Terminal, Shell is in the process of reorganising the current distribution of fuels for sites in the South of England.

To ensure the mainline grades of unleaded and diesel are kept in stock, the resource used for Optimax deliveries has been unitised to support these deliveries. Our distribution contractors are working to get extra resource to aid with mainline deliveries and allow Optimax to be dispatched to sites again. We anticipate that this will take several weeks to get all deliveries back to normal.

Shell appreciates your reliance on Optimax, and would like to thank you for your patience during this difficult period. Please be assured that we are doing everything to get all fuels to service stations.

Yours sincerely,

Matthew Wagster

Nice one Dave!!! That explains why there is none in Cornwall at the moment!!! Everytime i've made a special trip to Truro or Hayle (The only 2 shell garages close enough) to get the stuff there pumps are dry so i've had to fill up with the Diet stuff! :x: Gonna have to be Esso's best over the festive period I think!!!

Always use Tesco 99 Ron

I use sainsburys super unleaded as it's 86.9p over here. I put in a tank of optimax in every 4th or 5th fill.

Same here. It's 97 octane, a lot cheaper than the local Optimax, and works okay for daily use.

Does anyone know the roll out plan for tesco 99ron? It is obviously what we all need, is way cheaper than optimax and with their turn-over of fuel it should always be fresh as daisies.

Come on tesco put something on your website !!!!!

it clearly states on the sticker at the pump that tesco 99 is 99 octane not ron, have phone tesco headoffice to double check and it is infact tested etc it is 99 OCTANE :hyper:

yes 99 octane. And the UK octane rating is in Ron. 99 octane = 99 ron.

The mans right, 99ron+99 octane in uk... either way... keep up the good work tesco.. lol Top fuel for a decent price :hyper:
