U.S Z's

What are the differences between a U.S car and UK spec?

There's a guy at a U.S air base near me selling his Auto TT (think it's a 2+2) and one of my mates is quite interested in it. It's left hand drive for a start frown.gif

Speedo only goes to 160mph.

I dont think they have a front roll bar. Cos that is why my the K&N filter I bought didnt fit. Cos it was for the US ZX and either the roll bar or the oil cooler was in the way, cos the US dont have one

Is the engine the same?

I presume it will be set up to run on different fuel? Although he has been in this country for about 2 years.

also be aware, if it came from the US, and its a 2+2, and its a TT not NA, then it has had a TT conversion done.

US did not have 2+2 TT as standard.

SRRAE why do you keep on saying that the K&N filter does not fit?

I have a UK car with K&N filter fitted, no problem at all.

It fits just the same as the blitz sus cone.

The one you had supplied did not fit your car, does not mean that you cannot get one that fits.

I could be wrong on the 2+2 bit. I haven't seen the guy in ages (before i got my Z) so i didn't know what to look for at the time.

My mate just got chatting to him in a pub recently.

I am telling you it didnt.

It stuck out about an inch too high. The oil cooler was in the way.

It was also taken to the K&N development centre in Warrington to get it fitted. The mechanic tried and said the oil cooler is in the way, cos its developed for the US ZX and not the UK one and they are slightly different. Some one else on here has had the same problem as me.

Did you get the 57-6001 kit? Or did you ask for one that would fit?

It depends on whether you were supplied with the conical or the cylindrical model.

Also, some Zeds have a bar across between the two chassis rails that I think would support the factory spashguard thing. My import didn't have one and I had to get a special bracket to support my fibreglass spashguard from SE (to match their airfilter).

No, mines an manual.

If you move the grey splash gaurd out of the way right under neath it is the oil cooler and going round it, it the front roll bar

the cylindrical model is z31 isnt it?

my car had stock airbox and all guards etc in place, and i didnt have to remove anything else other than the airbox.

it was a tight fit, and does dent the cone very slightly, but the blitz is the same i believe

have you got auto ? is it that oil cooler in the way ?

i dont have a bar in the way either....

Craig the oil cooler for the autobox is in the rad!!!

So is it just a UK manual problem then?

If so am I gonna have trouble with every air filter?

Timmy you junior LOL!

Stu, I think we agreed that you got send the same filter as I did - which was definitly the wrong one. (This was a few months ago now)

But Johnny sorted me with an HKS anyway - which is the dogs!

Simon.

Stuart I just remembered now!!! HKS I know who has a second hand one for sale,It is very shallow,so it will fit 100% wink.gif,I will ask him how much he wants if you like...

Just to add to the great K&N filter debate, I was there with Craig when he fitted his and I can vouch for him - it did fit !

Also, my JWT single POP filter was exactly the same as the K&N and I've heard others say it's the same unit rebadged. Mine fitted fine - and Jez can vouch for that too as he helped me fit it !

This all refers to the conical filter. So in my experience the K&N fits a UK manual, a Jap auto with standard gearbox oil cooling, and a Jap auto with an SE gearbox oil cooler.

Dave

Mines a 91 UK Manual TT and I have the HKS Super power flow (or whatever - why such complicated names ffs??? biggrin.gif). It was a tight fit and I removed the splash guard to make things easier and get a bit more air in there. The metal brace people are talking about is there to brace one of the oil coolers - engine oil I think just can't remember right now wink.gif If you remove the bar the cooler flops about which aint good!

To be honest, I think the usual rule is get the model that was designed for YOUR car off somebody who KNOWS WHAT THEY ARE TALKING ABOUT - especially when there are different chassis designations for a particular model - ie Z31 and Z32 wink.gif

CheerZ,

Andy
