Hi everyone,

I'm very sorry to say I'm selling my zed (ad already posted in "Cars For Sale", and I'll probably whack it on fleabay after Christmas). This hasn't been an easy decision to make as I love the car, but it's simply reached the point where I've realised it is, as somebody else pointed out, dictating my lifestyle, and that's just not right. I'd love to be able to keep it, but the bottom line is that even if I just leave it in the garage, it's still going to need TLC (i.e. money) pouring into it when it comes out.

Don't get me wrong, I've been really fortunate with mine and it doesn't have, and hasn't had, any major problems, but it's just the constant stream of little things that need sorting out, and the fact that every time I leave it in a car park I worry, and I notice every little blemish in the paintwork, and all these things really need sorting to keep the car on top form... and it's £100, £200 here, there and everywhere (and lets not even talk about fuel).

Seems like everyone who's had these cars for any length of time knows that... and I've learnt that there really is no such thing as a "cheap" sports car. I've really enjoyed it, and I don't regret buying it one bit even though I've lost a pile of cash, but the fact is that like most people I have to operate on some sort of budget, and I need to face up with the reality and deal with that.

So anyway, there you go. I'm really down in the dumps about it, but feel it's the right thing to do.

I just want to say thanks for all the help, advice, and encouragement I've received on this forum. IMO you're all a great bunch, and it's been fantastic to be able to get answers within minutes for any problems I've encountered. It's always been very reassuring to know that I'm not on my own with this thing, and I think without the help and advice I've received here I would have found myself up the creek very quickly.

Cheers guys,

Bart

I feel for you. Had very similar thoughts myself today due to the fact that I haven't had my Z for about two months as the garage that are fitting upgraded turbos have been taking the pee and not completed the work. Have seriously toyed with the idea of selling up and buying an Elise again as it's just as quick and far cheaper in fuel!

Ditto

I think we all feel like that, Does seem to be a stream of pissy little jobs all the time !! :headvswal

Good luck

totally agree have had mine approx 4yrs spent fair amount on mods/repairs etc and havn't enjoyed it and have thought about selling to, but then every time i look/drive it. get all compliments from peeps makes me change my mind and keeping it

Had mine two months. Getting it repaired now for a crash duh! but i still love it. As im prone to depression its the best pick-me-up there is for me :)

Thing is as performance cars go (of a certain age) the zed is probably one of the most reliable. And the thing is when you buy one you need to have both eyes open, its not a cheap runabout and never was, its a pedigree sportscar and the costs that go with it are always on the high side. But there is no accounting for some things, rising costs of fuel and insurance, etc. But the bottom line is they are expensive to run and maintain. Just as well this club and other like it are around to help reduce the pain and provide a little light at the end of the tunnel. But if you are lucky enough to be able to have one and drive it its a fantastic car, well proportioned , loads of power , good handling, and a design icon.
