does anyone know if the red dot (next to the gear lever) that indicates what gear is selected is supposed to be lit up at night as it's nigh on impossible to see in the dark.

Featured Replies

never paid much attetion to be honest seeing as you mention it i will look tonight though...i cant recall having to strain to see which gear was selected when night driving so i guess it is backlit by some small bulb / diode linked to the dash illumination

yes, its lit up, but if you have the dash lights set to anything below max brightness its a little difficult to see.

on mine, the gear markings are lit up but the red indicator isn't even when the dimmer settings are set to max brightness. I'm assuming a bulb has gone out it.

Never really thought about it...

If I am going forward then it is in D, if I am going back it is in R and if I am stopped it is in P...

hehehe, now it is gonna bug me...lolol

I generally slap the gearstick into N if it looks like I'm going to be stationary for a shortwhile ie long wait at lights.

I think that it is supposed to light up - but I think that you'll find that it's just dirt on the underside and dirt on the bulb. From memory you can clean both to good effect.

thanks Jack. means I'll have to faff around with taking the centre console apart.

I seen to recall that it's not difficult - remove the main bit that has the vents and clock - 4 screws and then about4 more to lift the gear-change console so that you can get at the bits that need cleaning.

Good luck

its a 501 type bulb, i tryed changing to a brighter bulb but it made no difference even with dimmer on max.

When I did my LED conversion on the dash, I also put a bright Blue LED in the auto leaver aswell, it did make a bit of difference, but not much.
