Just got off the phone to them, bunch of wan*ers

Got a private plate on my old 300zx - A3 OOY so though i might as well transfer it onto my new zed so eventually got all the forms from them and all my V5 forms back so called them up to get some advice as i want to get the old shell taken away today and ive lost my plate??!!

They say i cant transfer a plate unless the car is road worthy and has a valid MOT?? what relevance is that? i own both cars so why cant i swap the plate over? but just keep getting the same answer.......its the rules and we cant change them but you can try your local office! so i ask for the number....they dont have a number....can i go down....yes......ah great i will nip down....they cant deal with any queries over the counter :headvswal :headvswal so whats the bloody point in having them i said and slammed the phone down??!!

So what can i do or do i just let me nice 300 plate go away with the shell :(

Correct. It's a rule that's always been enforced. Otherwise, people would be going down to scrap yards and taking any identity from any car they saw fit.

You should have put the plate on retention if you wanted to keep it.

Its true Mike there is nothing you can do about it, It happened to a mate of mine last year. Imagine if you had a plate worth a few K ?

Put the plate on someones elses car the same colour and test it ;)

Trust me :D

I had a friend who had a Hot rod a few years ago that was having complete o/haul done he needed to sell the plate, he found a sympathetic MOT station They issued a ticket and when plate transferred he gave them the ticket back and it was destroyed

Not right but it worked !!

dont want to do owt really dodgy so looks like i will have to lose it :(

stick those plates on another zed then get it MOT'd :hyper: or do they put the chasis number on the MOT certificate these days  Bugger, I think they've started to computerise MOT's now too :headvswal

yeh they do the vin plate online now so not worth all the arsing

not too worry

vin number certainly does go on the MOT, and yes computerised mot's are being introduced but plenty of places still dont do them.

I know there is a procedure where if the car gets stolen, you can get the plate back after a year under some conditions. You'd think that there would be a similar thing for if you scrap the car.
