Had an Apple 32" TFT yesterday in for repair. A local repair company told me "It's cheaper to buy a new one it than to get a new backlight for it". FFS it's only 2 years old. Eventually fixed it by resoldering one of the wires back onto one of the 1.5mm thick fluorescent tubes but it was well hidden by glue and rubber etc. They paid £2K for it in 2003 and it was a loose wire FFS  Should have written it off and taken it home :D
