Fuel Octane questions

haveing recently returned from the poor part of america (canada) I noticed that all the fuel out there is below 90 octane (even the preium stuff is like 91)... so when we go crazy insiting on 99/ron100 type optimax/tesco stuff do we really need to?

 

Do they run less boost on the zeds out there? I understand higher boost requires more octance petrol to avoid detting if possible as a safe guard.. but do we really need extra octane?

    There rating system is different to ours. Its actually similar ron ratings to the UK

     

    USA use MON. we use RON.
