when i start my car the gauge shows there is no oil pressure. It is knocking from the bottom end but would this cause the lack of oil pressure?

no but the lack of oil pressure could off caused bottom end damage,but you cant go of what the guage says as there not the most of accurate gauges,best thing to do is fit an aftermarket gauge plumbed in off the oil tree housing or using a sandwhich plate,get a true reading off the oil press,then go from there,a faulty oil pump could be the cause or blocked oil way,resulting in the failure off a bearing on the rod/s
