ok so as i'm sure your all aware i love my ZED, she's always looked after me and never let me down (before) but two weeks ago i had a bit of a moment! infact a big moment! whilst driving (for legal reasons lets say on the track) i entered a very long road! being as it was late and 'THE TRACK' was clear i put my boot down a bit and at last glance was passing 130mph, around 5 seconds later i heard a bang flollowed by a slapping sound and she became less poised so i slowed down and pulled to the side of the road! after getting out of the car and inspecting the rear i found my rear offside tyre had blown itself appart! needless to say this site made me create a small brown fish in my undies. with the police informed of my location and the recovery vehicle called it was time to sit down away from the vehicle and contemplate the incident, after a quick call to spinsky my nerves were settled and the space saver fitted. which after 300 yards ripped itself appart so it was then a matter of waiting 6 hours til 4am for the demountable bed lorry to arrive as my zed being so low couldn't get on the first two recovery trucks. each attempt either scraping my zorst or bumper etc. anyway the recovery drives and repair center both pointed out that if it wasn't for the fact my car was so low and the spoiler so big, basically running standard downforce my wife a i should be dead as an offside rear blowout is apparently the worst kind of blow out ot have, this has put the fear of god into me and since she's been back the most i've been able to do is put her in the garage and i occasionally turn her over just to hear that tone. i'm not sure how to get round this problem as my zed doesn't do SLOW, never has, 20,30,60,70mph all just feel odd as their in between gears, my little black demon isn't a car more like a bullet but everytime i contemplate taking her out i remember that fact i have no traction control and the bang slapping sound of the blow out, does anyone have any ideas how i can get round this as not driving her is driving me crazy but the thought of driving her scares me poo less????

Well, looks like you've learnt the same lesson as me, but in a more scary way! My heavy foot has now earn't me 9 points (although none of them were from offences that were dangerous or even very fast, I guess its Karma for all the other times or something). I've gone from doing long distance driving at night to commuting in the day and I'm having to change my attitude to driving. Heavy feet just get you into trouble in the day.

You can still enjoy the acceleration I suppose. I often think thats why Evos and Scooby's are so common as they can get there thrills at low speeds accelerating and going round the twisties whereas its always tempting to boot the Zed into triple figures. How old were your tyres by the way?

I had a blow out at 90 in a Toyota Surf (big ass 4x4) and it is scary...

Glad everyone was ok though..

You have to get back on the horse so to say. You know you take care of your car so its not as if you are getting in an unknown quantity. What happend to you is quite rare and you must keep that in mind. If we let all of these things run our lives we would never leave home for the fear of something hurting us. I am by no means making what happened seem trivial but get back in the drivers seat.

Lesson there is check your tyres befor you go on the "Track" you never know what bits of crap you picked up in your tyres.

What brand of tyre was it? What speed rating was it?

That all add's up.

Glad your ok thou, as Chris (deve8uk) says, check you tyre's before you have a blast on the 'track'

Now get back in yer car yer great nancy :)

I had a blowout in a an orion at 70mph on the motorway whilst in the fast lane!! My tyre flew off the rim and almost hit a couple of motorbike riders and near missed by paul stevens ( on the site) ! luckily got it over to hard should without writing it off.

Last sunday i went offroading in my disco 4x4 ,and on the way home around this bend i come, only to here a megga bang followed by my wheels locking up thus sending me on a blind bend over the other lane towards a telegraph pole of witch i missed by an inch, hit nothing hit by nothing comming the other way , i looked my rear diff had blown a whole in it where the diff come out in bits, this once i checked my pants and heart to find still ticking i set about the 4x4. knock knock on farmers door ,Sorry to disturb you but can i leave my 4x4 on your property overnight? Farmmer says of course where are you exactly? see that Telegragh pole over there, ive just missed by an inch as i flew past.Your lucky farmer says, thats just been replaced where a car where a unfortunate driver killed him self just last sunday.

On that i took note ,when called and your numbers up and there isnt alot you can do,

Best look up and say cheers big fella and get on with life: Because life is worth living that why you bought your zed was it not???

Give the car a proper inspection and get back in her and look fear in the face ! :D

Learn from what happened and be sensible

You will enjoy yourself again in the Z

cheers guys, my shoes are yokohama 255/35 zr17's, i had an inspection and even though i replaced all the tyres less than six months ago but it appears the rear tracking/ steering must have been WAY out as the inside's on both rears were scrubbed on the inside, with the body kit being so low its hell hard to even see the tyres let alone feel them, tell you what i reckon i'm just gonna use it for short trips til the new year then attend the next zed gathering. but i think we all know that theirs a rats hope in hells chance of me leaving my lead boots at home! i think deve8uk's lesson is one that most of us that don't should listen to, we drive supercars not pedestrian cars and should treat them as such! and i should check my shoes not just polish and wash it twice weekly and check the engine once a fortnight. glad to still be here

i think u have to get back in the car again

i have twice wrote cars off

once putting it under the back of a lorry (and i mean UNDER IT), lucky to walk away from it)

the 2nd one i span my old 306 (R.I.P) at 70mph and put it in a ditch (again just walked away from it)

neither were my fault i might add :)

it scared me shitless cose both times the missus WERNT in the car but she could have been.

You have to get back in the car m8, i did and it was sumthing i didnt really wanna do but had too.

just check the car reguarly and take ur time till ur confident to put ur foot down :)

i once had a head on collision in my z31 at 90mph,that hurt but within 1 hour got straight back into my 3ltr s capri and drove the wheels of it,if i didnt do it straight away it would have knocked my confidence on driving a bit quickly, however i will admit it made me a better driver and help to forsee possible dangers in advance

I check my tyre pressure every day after i realised the thumb prod test is a waste of time on meaty 245 tyres.

All I can say bud, is been there. Binned my blade in 98 at donnington aand spent six weeks in plaster. Strange thing is I got out of plaster and had the maddest trip to Assen to watch the WSB, put the bike away for the worst of winter, first sunny day = leathers on out with the lads and bottled it on my first fast right hander!! Took me a while to get over it as well felt as if the rear was sliding out, but only on right handers (same as the corner I binned it) but like said above, you get over it, it may slow you down a bit for a while, but its no bad thing. And blow outs of any kind are very rare now. Take your time, build your confidence back up and youll be flying again soon :)

Talking of flying again lol, I was up in my microlight the other day & the wind speed increased from about 8 knots up to 17 knots! (Bloody weather forecasts :smash: ) The maximum wind you're supposed to fly a microlight in is 12 knots.

As you can imagine, I was being thrown around all over the place & it scared the crap out of me TBH :x:. Luckily I just managed to sit it down on the runway at the right moment. I came away from there wondering if I was doing the right think by flying but after having time to calm down I know that I'll be up there again soon ;)

You know you want to get back in it, so do it :D

cheers guys, your were all so right, got her back on the road today after a full checkover and after a few careful corners i just blipped the throttle to overtake a passat and that was it, i remembered what it was that i loved and i'm so back in the saddle..... see ya on the road guys

I'll NEVER fly!!!!

I had my back tyre blow out while traveling down a dual carriage way at 140mph on my old Honda CBR600 FX I did'nt really notice it that much untill I came to a round about and tried to lean it over.

I defo beleive n driving karma or the Force! When i am are at ease with myself and know the roads and conditions i tend to be ok. But on monday i thought i knew better than my ZX and i crashed on a downwards slippery road. I am now trying to get back my driving karma.

Its a miracle that i have never had points on my license and i often give it some on motorways and A roads. When i feel uncomfortable i dont do anything dramatic.

Use the Force and the ZX will serve you well.

dude, least mine wasn't a crash, hows the zed and more importantly you, but then again hows the zed?
