Speed Humps, Crap Roads, Lowered Car on 18's and arse/feck etc

I have a dilemma as usual, its the one I usually have when I see my ten grand tied up in a car thats virtually unusable and just sat in my garage!

I only have about 35mm ground clearance on the front of my car and it scratches on everything! Carpark entrances, bumps in the road etc and it gets me down frown.gif

It sits on 18's and SE lowered springs, if I put an OEM front bumper and original springs anyone any idea how much extra clearance this would give me and would my car look shite?

Here it is, can someone recommend a way that I can get some more air between the splitter and the nasty and cruel road otherwise its gonna have to go frown.gif

It seems that u have 2 quite low sections on ur front bumper, they must be causing the low clearance. Can they not be removed?

Glen,

where the splitter starts underneath the meshed side intakes is about where the stock one would finish.

i dont think it would so bad, but wouldnt keep the theme with the side skirts.

the '99 front would be the same height as the old stock one and would look okay imho

i had been looking to change my stock front for ages, until i lowered the car....

and then realised it would be pointless.

Hmmm I know this is not the ideal fix, but have you thought about re-modeling the front bumper? i.e cut the front corner splitters off and maybee a shave off the whole length of the bumper? surely this would give you the few extra inches you need (no offence intended!)this way you will still retain most of that georges bumper of yours?

not sure what it will look like, why not chop it about on your pc?

hope this helps kris

Glen go urathane mate Stillen wink.gif.They are very flexy and bouncy,The other option is change the springs back to stock.IMHO! I would never fit a fiberglass SHITE front bumper, even if it was given to me,they may look nice but they are a complete waste of time frown.gif.

Gotta agree with Ian on this one. That front bumper you've got is the one that I originally wanted (looks awesome) but I knew that because it was fiberglass, it was a big no-no. I'm now going for the Stillen front like Ian because it looks just as good and bends as well as the stock front. I also dont think it hangs down as low.

Andrew good choice wink.gifyou are correct in saying that it does not, hang that low,I measured it with the stock one and the Stillen is only 1/2" longer.

I have just been having a good look at your car again Iain and I must say I love the front end.

I am right in thinking it sits on stock springs yeh?

You are right about fiberglass, fit only for fixing holes in boats LMAO!!

It only took one little disagreement with a car park exit to put a 2 inch crack in the bastard thing, and if my calculations are right my bumper cost £500+paint. And now it looks like it cost £40+filler frown.gif

Can I ask (bit personal so forgive me) how much your front bumper cost (with paint) - put it another way, how much would it cost me to replace the polyfilled Monza nosecone with a stillen flexiwobbler wink.gif ?

Problem is car is unusable @theMo so I godda get it sorted, but I want to retain the aggresive look it has and I think the Stillen will do that nicely..

Thanks for your time geezers..

Oh Glenski, Glenski you poor lad...

I remember you posting about the flippy flappy Stillen a while back and saying you'd rather stick with the recycled canoe mold instead! LMAO biggrin.gif

Stillen front = Looks the bollox but doesn't compromise practicallity!

Me and me Bro went to pick mine up from Johnny boys and we couldn't believe how flexi they are! We virtually had it bent in half to get it in the car. Only joking, Saabs have some interior space FFS biggrin.gif We could have got a whole Wings West Kit box in the back of that and still had room for a set of ladders or two...ROFLMFAO biggrin.gif

Get the Stillen mate, you won't be disappointed and either go to slightly higher springs or back to stock as the others have said. Your car will still look the biz mate, trust me!!! wink.gif

sig.gif

P.S. I've seen bloody F1 cars with more ground clearance than the Batmobile mate FFS! ROFLMFAO biggrin.gif biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

OK Glenski I just measured my bumper at the middle of the car and it is 5",3/4inch from the floor ,sat on stock springs yours looks more like 2",1/2inch LOL.Now when I look at your pictures I now know I need a digi camera, your picture quality is spot on mate!!!Go for the Stillen mate you know it makes sense biggrin.gif!

Glen price depends on how many the gingerbread man has to order,I think it is just over the 500 squid mark, sounds expensive but when you consider thats it no more repairs,It would be worth it at double the cost in the longrun wink.gif.

... no?

Thanks Iain for the info, and Timmy for the usual words of wibbledom wink.gif

£500 sounds fair, I was budgeting a grand for bumper and paint so when the taxman has finished with my money its go go go as Murray Walker might say.

Blow Me, if you will, I thought about hydraulix and Phoeng from gotrice? came on here and quoted me nine grand to build one, the mad oriental-american him!
