Just got my chromed headlights through the door. They're good but they aint 100%. Maybe im just picky?

Is it possible to polish these without damaging them?

Featured Replies

Oh, they are super shiny. Just got a few grainy bits

Hi Scott, sorry to hear they are not 100%, I believe that this type of finish is very easy to damage although I have never tried to polish it myself, unless the finish is really bad I doubt you would notice much underneath the glass. It would be one of those things which you know is not quite right but unless you pointed it out no one would see and its probably best left alone.

Yeah, you're probably right. When i tilt them into the light, the grainy bits are really obvious. :( . I'll see how they look tomorrow.

Scotty - Don't try and polish it out. The finish is very very fine. about 10 times thinner than paint and you will end up pulling the finish off. It's because the surface of the inserts is not perfect. This is the problem that I use to find and I had to get the inserts proffesionally primed and then wet n'dryed them down to 2000.

On the up side, once under the glass, they are not too bad.

Good luck

Cos, you got any chromed bits left? :D

only a set of chrome headlight brackets and depending your model, a balance bar.

Scott I noticed the same thing too. A very good job for what we paid, but slight imperfections showing. DONT TOUCH the finish at all, as Cos said.

Mine are all assembled and back in the car. They look fine BUT if you are REALLY fussy you can see slight imperfection still.

total cost was Just over £100 with all the carriage and Vat paid. Very good deal indeed. Im not a perfectionist so Im well chuffed with the whole job.

I aint touched the finish yet. Im sure they will be fine when fitted, just picky :D . And yup, a good job for the price we paid.

Cos, what are the headlight brackets?

The parts that are bolted on to the headlights around the edges and the 2 bits underneath that allow you to bolt them to the car. They are in this picture at the bottim middle and right.
